The City of West Hollywood is currently preparing its upcoming two-year operating budget. As part of this process, the city has launched a short online budget survey to engage residents, businesses, and community members within West Hollywood in providing feedback about budget priorities.
The city’s Finance Department will incorporate responses from community members into budget planning and work-plan development. The survey, which takes less than five minutes to complete, is available online through May 25.
The city’s operating budget will cover two fiscal years. It will begin on July 1, 2016 and will run through June 30, 2018. Sixty percent of the city’s revenues come from three main sources, including transient occupancy tax (hotel room tax), sales taxes and property taxes. The most recent fiscal-year (2015-16) budget includes $117 million in expenditures. This amount includes $83 million in General Fund expenditures.
The budget focuses on five key initiatives for delivering enhanced services to constituents in the City of West Hollywood — 1) technology; 2) arts and culture; 3) human services and homelessness; 4) community engagement, and 5) enhanced Eastside services.
In an effort to increase transparency and provide data in an easily accessible, user-friendly format, the city in January 2016 launched a new open data portal that can be viewed online here. To view detailed information about current revenues and expenditures, the city’s open data portal includes a page dedicated to the budget. The portals provide easily accessible information in a user-friendly format.
