A DUI checkpoint in West Hollywood on Friday resulted in the arrests or citations of five people.
One person was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, another was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and another was arrested for possession of narcotics. Two drivers were cited for driving without a license or while the license was suspended or revoked.
The checkpoint took place from 6 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday at Fairfax Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Regular checkpoints are staged by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Services Detail. The DUI checks are announced in advance, although their exact locations are not revealed, as a way to inhibit people from taking the risk of driving under the influence.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent..
