KCET’s Derrick Shore Gives the Robo Garage a Try

Have you been wondering how West Hollywood’s soon-to-open robo garage will work? KCET’s SoCal Connected reporter Derrick Shore, who lives in West Hollywood, was invited to give it try. In the video above Shore takes his car into the automated garage, which sits on Sweetzer Avenue behind City Hall.

He notes the $16 million cost is pretty much equivalent to what a traditional 200-space garage would cost. But it takes up much less space, and replaces 68 spaces with those 200 automated ones. The garage is scheduled to be open to the public on June 24.

This however is an $18,000,000 8-track tape player. In the near future autoautos will be parking themselves. The Kings Road garage will be ready… Read more »

Anyone, even the news reporter and the author of this article can google

how much does a 200 car parking garage cost to build

One reference does refer to a recent $16 parking garage… with over 640 new parking spots.

Most are closer and in consensus of around $12,000 per space.

This is Factually Incorrect. A base average cost for a standard parking structure is approximately $15-17 thousand dollars per new parking space. Thus, being generous, $17,000 * 200 = 3,400,000. 3.4 million dollars is at least 6 times MORE EXPENSIVE for the new robo garage. FURTHER I personally went to the City Hall Lot many times before construction begab. My personal observations was there was never a shortage of parking. I also spoke with whomever I came across each time. Parking Security said there is never a parking problem or time when there is a shortage. I spoke with a… Read more »

This amazing infomercial managed to knock $2 million off the price tag and the reporter accepted every single talking point as fact.
