The Donald’s Lovers and Haters Get in a Fight in WeHo

As we all know, there’s never a dull moment in WeHo. The latest excitement seems to have occurred on Friday evening when supporters of Donald Trump (a rare breed in liberal West Hollywood) had eggs and fecal matter thrown at them during a demonstration on the corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards and got into an altercation with customers at Fiesta Cantina.

That bit of drama occurred around 7:20 p.m. and was partially captured on video that went viral after being posted on Breitbart.com, the conservative news site. (A longer — 18 minutes — and more chaotic video posted below also offers the Trump supporters view of the incident) Breitbart reported that a woman grabbed the mobile phone of Trump supporter Tim Treadstone (aka Baked Alaska) and threw it to the ground just outside the Mexican restaurant at 8865 Santa Monica Blvd. Treadstone is a comedian who also is variously identified as the social media strategist for Buzzfeed and for Breitbart News.

“This blond girl grabbed my iPhone and threw it as hard as she could to the pavement,” Treadstone told Breitbart. “And before I could pick it up, the brunette who was throwing the food at people punched me in the head. My glasses and my hat flew off. There were claw marks on my neck.”

The two women, Kelsey Salem and Jacqueline Johnson, were detained by a bystander in a citizen’s arrest. Sheriff’s deputies, who are compelled by law to follow through on a lawful citizen’s arrest, arrested the women for battery. Whether formal charges are filed is up to the district attorney.

“We walk in and all of a sudden pretty much all the customers started screaming at us, giving us middle fingers, and throwing guacamole, chips and food at our group,” Treadstone told Breitbart. “One of the female customers comes out and starts shoving us and physically saying ‘you guys don’t belong here,’ which was echoed by other tables at the restaurant. They kept saying ‘You’re not welcome here,’ just because we were wearing Trump hats. We weren’t allowed to eat at the restaurant.”

Kelsey Salem, one of the women charged, told WEHOville the charges were exaggerated. “I was involved in an altercation with Trump supporters on Friday night,” she said in an email message. “They entered Fiesta Cantina and were just shouting saying they were being refused service even though they never tried to buy anything. There was a bunch of them filming, and they said I pushed them and my friend hit some guy’s phone out of his hand (allegedly). There is a video and an article (maybe more) about it on a conservative website. I was charged with battery and now I have to go to court for this … You can see in the video they are clearly just trying to cause a stir and unfortunately I got in the middle of it and have charges that I have to deal with. It’s all ridiculous and crazy. ”

West Hollywood has developed a bit of a reputation as a city unfriendly to The Donald, with then-Mayor Lindsey Horvath stirring up controversy with a letter she sent to other mayors this Spring that said Trump wasn’t welcome in West Hollywood.

Like the above poster, I was at rally this night, and witnessed this guy “Baked Alaska” get his phone thrown on the ground by one of the girls. I am a gay Trump supporter, but I don’t know Baked (but I do recognize him by that crazy haircut/dye job brother), and don’t really have a dog in this fight. But this most certainly happened, and these girls were way out of line. The lack of civility from some Dems is infuriating. Bernie folks have been wonderful across the board, we’re fellow travelers in a lot of way. But these girls… Read more »

I was there during this ‘incident’. The brunette girl in the video -i’m guessing is the one quoted in the article- was far from innocent. The bouncer used the megaphone and invited the rally folks from across the street in for free round of drinks on the house whenever they got ‘finished’ with their rally. When they came in, this girl got aggro with them. I was disappointed. I’m pro-1st amendment and anti bullying. The aggressive and bullying behavior I saw was despicable. They threw the girl out for it. From what I’ve read, the girl physically attacked them outside… Read more »

without a dog in the fight, i am always interested seeing how the old adage; ‘victims becoming victimizers’ plays out.
so you don’t care for a candidate or a person’s ideas, and you assault those who support them, then have the audacity to verbally berate and say things like ‘you don’t belong here’. wow.
does barney’s beanery past history come to mind?
are we such animals that we lose our sense of decency when we have a margarita and chips, and that gives us the right to abuse one another?
we have lost our civility and frankly, our minds.

There is a riot? Violence is happening? These idiotic Trump supporters were thirsty for controversy trying to aggravate people in a bar famous for 2-for-1 happy hour. Much Like Trump trying to have a rally in downtown Chicago they were trying to instigate people. This “reporter” is screaming about drama, violence, rioting when he is actually getting into calm conversations.
