The Block Party, the gay men’s apparel story on Santa Monica Boulevard, was the victim of a robbery this morning.
Larry Block, owner of the store, said a man entered at around 10:30 a.m. and walked to the back of the store. The man then walked upstairs to Block’s office and took $690 from a desk drawer.
“We have two videos of him entering the store and disappearing out of camera sight where there is a door to the upstairs,” Block said. “The door was left open, and the cash deposit was in a desk drawer. When I arrived to make the deposit the drawer was open and the money gone.”
Block said he has referred the matter to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.
Hey, WORKER BEE & WORKER BEE 2, keep all that information to yourself! The public does not need to know anything more that the crime and it’s facts. Those of us that know Larry know that he is a great guy. Let the trolls and the haters stir in their own misery, don’t even respond or defend anything. I would delete your posts so that any “undesirable” customer doesn’t get any other ideas. It was a CRIME, period.
@ chris, Larry wasn’t even there and doesn’t open the store. I opened the shop and checked the daily sales reports while Larry had a meeting at city hall like he always does giving his time to community issues. If your suggesting he should not trust me or he should fire me Im glad my boss does not judge our staff by one mistake or one problem. Chris, I don’t think Worker Bee blamed anyone else. He said “In any case it was my fault the door was open.” His comments about a “bad element” frequenting the store might still be valid.
Also, just because the door was left unlocked does not take away from the fact that this was a robbery. Yes, it could have easily been avoided, but this still was theft. From someone who seems to know what he was doing.
Don’t blame The Pickup for your mistake, Worker Bee. You live and work in a major urban area. There’s going to be crime. It’s absolutely insane that an office door was left open when that office contained a large sum of money. This might call into question Larry Block’s decision-making process if he has policies in place that allow for this kind of thing.
The door to the office was open but you have to walk up a flight and a half of steps to get to the desk so it was very brazen of this fellow to enter the door and go up the steps. In any case it was my fault the door was open and I have apologized. We all know that the door is suppose to be closed and it locks when closed automatically but it was a mistake. Could this be one-a them, oh durn I told ya so stories? You leave your office door wide open, unattended, with hot money laying around, with lots of friends, neighbors & other strangers wandering in & out & around & about – and viola! Stranger sees chance to get hot money in his hot little hands. Shocking I tell ya! My bet is more than money disappears from there on a regular basis. It’s not brain surgery. Or is it?
Looks like this guy knows exactly where he’s going. Question is how did he know where the money was and at that time of day. Odder than odd. And thanks Larry for the promotional door hangers littering up our buildings. Is this a pre attention getting celebration of a WeHo campaign promotion linking you to Hillary’s campaign? More obvious than obvious.
The store employee never looked up from what he was doing. Anybody could have walked out with merchandise too.
