Temple Beth El Is Offering Shofar Lessons

A shofar selfie? Why not? But first you have to learn to blow one.

Hollywood Temple Beth El, located at 1317 N. Crescent Heights Blvd. in West Hollywood, is offering lessons, free.

Rabbi Dr. Norbert Weinberg, in announcing the lessons, reminds those attending that they actually will need a shofar. Atara’s Gift Shop at 369 N. Fairfax will make a donation to the synagogue for each shofar sold for these classes.

“This meaningful ritual will enhance your High Holy Day experience – and amaze your friends,” said Weinberg, who labeled the lessons as “a cure for ‘Shofar Envy,’ and a great ‘selfies’ opportunity.”

The lessons take place from 10 a.m. to noon this coming Sunday and on Sept. 25. Those attending must RSVP to (323) 656-3150 and leave a message with a return phone number.

As an extra bonus, Temple Beth El is inviting graduates of its shofar classes who have High Holy Day tickets to join in blowing the shofar during Rosh Hashanah Day and the end of Yom Kippur.
