Authorities today identified a woman who was killed in a suspected DUI crash in West Hollywood last night that left three other people injured.
The accident was reported at 11:54 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Fountain and Stanley avenues. A silver 2004 two-door Infiniti was traveling westbound on Fountain at a high rate of speed when the vehicle clipped a parked BMW, causing the driver to lose control, said Lt. Daren Diviak of the Sheriff’s West Hollywood Station. The Infiniti then struck a concrete light pole and a fence before flipping over, Diviak said.
Of the vehicle’s four occupants, one female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified by the coroner’s office as Nicole Alas, 22, of Montebello. The other three occupants were taken to the hospital, where they were stabilized, Diviak said.
Fountain Avenue, between Spaulding and Curson avenues, was closed for an investigation.
I live on Fountain & Spaulding and the accident was one block east of me. I’ve lived at this intersection since 2009 and there isn’t a week that goes by without a fender bender. There was a 3 car pile up with a bumper in the street during rush hour the week before, and then last week, just as I was drifting off I heard a horrible crash and raced down to see an equally horrible sight – car flipped on its roof, smoldering and a body on the ground. I called 911, as many others did, including the many… Read more »
SE/Alison – one of you pull up Google Maps please. You’re both correct. Sierra Bonita stops going north at Santa Monica, skips the entire series of blocks between SaMo and Fountain, and picks back up traveling northward from Fountain. So if you’re on Norton, then – yes – the streets are Curson, Gardner, Vista travelling east. But if you’re on Fountain, there’s a Sierra Bonita that jumps in there to travel north between Curson & Gardner.
Alison, Dude, I’m not sure where you live, but at Fountain, Curson is absolutely WEST of Sierra Bonita. As for my plan creating gridlock – could it be any worse than the gridlock we have now? It would also improve safety, which is a major goal for our city. Your responses seem to be intended as contrary vs. thoughtful. I’m sorry you are so threatened by others’ suggestions and I hope today is a better day for you.
For those of you mourning Nicole, you have my condolences.
SE: I think your plan would create gridlock across the whole City. That might work in a small town, but not here IMHO.
Dude, I live on a block that intersects Curson. I know what street is next to me and it isn’t Sierra Bonita. It is Gardner, then Vista, then Fuller going east.
Allison, traffic would be calmed and flow wouldn’t be too impacted. Look at Fountain between La Brea and Highland where both directions are reduced to one lanes each. People drive slower and they tend to be not as reckless. Once you cross through La Brea, people start speeding up and add in the people who stop in the middle of the left most lanes to make a left and you got a sh-t show that we have now
Fountain needs to be consistently four lane all the way instead of switching back and forth.
How can anybody be going 80 miles an hour on fountain? That’s crazy! I pray for all those people affected. I wonder people are wearing their seatbelts. Would it matter at that speed?
My heart is broken, I would see Nicole almost everyday at the goodwill in Montebello. I’m so in shock that Nichole was the passenger in this horrible accident. She was sweet, soft spoken and loves video games and often talked with my autistic son about games. She was so sweet with my daughter and son and they are heart broken as well. We will truly miss you Nichole😔😔 love Anthony, Lexie and Lorraine
Rip my cousin love you
Hi Alison – Thank you for your response to my comment. Perhaps take another look and you will see that I included a suggestion for how to improve traffic flow across all of West Hollywood. I would be more curious about your thoughts on the whole post, as your response seems to indicate that you might have missed some of it…As for Sierra Bonita – it IS 1 block east of Curson and Gardner is 1 block east of Sierra Bonita. Have a nice day.
Jrose: Sierra Bonita is NOT one block east of Curson. Gardner is one block east of Curson. But the stretch between Spaulding and Curson is very dangerous – multiple accidents, including fatal accidents, happen every single year. I live on Hampton, one block south of that stretch and I can hear all the accidents. SE: Making Fountain one lane in each direction would be horrific. The traffic would not be calmed, it would be much worse. People take Fountain so they don’t have to be stuck in Santa Monica Blvd’s gridlock, so how would making Fountain into gridlock help anything?… Read more »
