So who and what did West Hollywood voters support in Tuesday’s election?
Perhaps no surprise, residents of this famously progressive city voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton for president. Clinton garnered 11,447 votes compared to 1,572 for her conservative Republican opponent, Donald Trump. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, won 203 votes. And Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, got 231 votes.
City Councilmember John Duran, a gay, liberal Democrat posted the West Hollywood vote tally on his Facebook page, noting “I still am not ready to post on social media what I think about incoming President Elect Donald Sump (sic)- but in the meantime I can post about how WeHo voted on other issues.”
The results on other propositions and measures affecting West Hollywood residents:
— Measure M – A sales tax to fund a Metro development program to help bring a subway to WeHo. Yes votes 10,376. No votes 1,975. “We were the second highest percentage in the county at 84.01%.” Duran noted. “Cudahy was first at 86.05%. We are urbanites!”
— Prop 56 – A tax on cigarettes. Yes votes 10,304. No votes 2,662.
— Prop 57 – A measure to focus the criminal justice system on rehabilitation of those convicted of crime rather than lengthy incarceration. Yes votes 10,780. No votes 1,926.
— Prop 60 – Requires the use of condoms by actors in adult films. Yes votes 3,964. No votes 8,709.
— Prop 62 – Repeals the death penalty. Yes votes 9,017. No votes 3,629.
— Prop 63 – Gun control. Yes votes 11,438. No 1405.
— Prop 64 – Legalize marijuana. Yes votes 10, 817. No votes 2,224. “Weed and WeHo — hand in hand for over 100 years,” Duran said.
