Serious crimes reported in West Hollywood last month were up a modest 2% from January 2016, according to a report by the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.
The report lists 168 serious crimes last month compared to 164 in the same month last year. The largest percentage increase was in the Center City area, which runs from La Cienega Boulevard to Fairfax Avenue. The report lists 42 serious crimes in that area last month, an increase of 35%
The largest number of Center City crimes involved vehicle burglaries, with 13 reported. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station has issued a statement advising residents not to leave items in their cars, whether parking on the street or in a garage.
Vehicle burglaries on the city’s Eastside, which stretches from Fairfax to La Brea, were down 33% with a total of 8. Petty thefts, the stealing property valued at $950 or less, accounted for the largest number of Eastside crimes at 25.
The city’s Westside, which ranges from La Cienega to Doheny and incorporates the Boystown nightlife area, saw a 5% decline in serious crimes. Vehicle burglaries there (34) fell 43% in January 2017 from 2016. The largest number of reported crimes (50) involved petty thefts, which were down 23%.
