Street closures were announced today for the 32nd annual Los Angeles Marathon this Sunday, while Metro said it will be increasing rail service to Santa Monica near the finish line.
The 26.2-mile Skechers Performance LA Marathon will travel from Dodger Stadium starting at 6:30 a.m. to Santa Monica. Many streets along the marathon route will be closed by 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, then re-open as early as 10:15 a.m. Sunday, depending on the location.
An estimated 25,000 people from all 50 states and more than 55 countries will run through West Hollywood between miles 14 and 15 of the 26.2-mile course.
“The City of West Hollywood is exactly halfway from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica,” said West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister. “Our little piece of the marathon route is full of big stories — runners will not only pound the pavement on the world-famous Sunset Strip and take-in its legendary past and history-making music venues, they will also enjoy a stretch of historic Route 66, which recently celebrated its 90th anniversary.”
The L.A. Marathon route for 2017 will guide runners into West Hollywood along Sunset Boulevard. From the Sunset Strip, runners will turn left (south) onto San Vicente Boulevard; then right (west) on Santa Monica Boulevard; then left (south) onto Doheny Drive, where they will enter the City of Beverly Hills.
The following streets in West Hollywood will be closed on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accommodate the race:
— Sunset Boulevard between North Havenhurst Drive and Doheny Drive.
— North San Vicente Boulevard. between Sunset Boulevard. and Melrose Ave.
— Santa Monica Boulevard. between La Cienega Avenue and North Doheny Drive.
— North Doheny Drive between Santa Monica Boulevard. and Beverly Boulevard.

Parking will not be allowed along the race course. “No Parking” signs will be posted before the event. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

L.A. Marathon spectators and community members who are searching for alternative parking solutions in West Hollywood during the marathon can visit the city’s website, where a directory of parking structures and municipal lots with hours of operation and rates is available. Members of the public are encouraged to carpool and to use public transportation, taxis or ridesharing options.
This is the first year that direct Metro rail service to the marathon finish line will be available due to the Expo Line extension into downtown Santa Monica that opened in May 2016. Metro said it will be increasing service to every nine minutes with three-car trains to accommodate the expected spike in riders.
The finish line for the marathon is Ocean Avenue and California Avenue, roughly six blocks from the Downtown Santa Monica stop on the Expo line. Metro also advises that due to street closures for the race, many bus routes will be detoured and riders should allow for extra time for their commute.
