West Hollywood’s Noemi Torres is being honored by U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) as one of the 28th Congressional District’s “Women of the Year.” This recognition is made each year during Women’s History Month.
Torres immigrated to the United States from Guadalajara, Mexico, at the age of 13. She initially lived in Seattle, Wash., and now lives in West Hhollywood. Torres has worked in several fields including acting, telecommunications and real estate. She now is a real estate agent with John Aaroe Group Sunset.
Torres currently is chair of WeHo’s Women’s Advisory Board. She has volunteered for Project Angel Food, AIDS Walk Los Angeles, the Revlon Run/Walk, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Heal the Bay and the Downtown Women’s Center.
Other honorees include: Holly Hampton (Echo Park), Marlene Hitt (Sunland/Tujunga), Anne-Marie Johnson (Silver Lake), Phyllis Kim (Glendale), Lena Kortoshian (La Crescenta), Camille Lombardo (Pasadena), Betty Porto (La Cañada Flintridge), Christine Rodriguez (Elysian Valley), Amanda Truelove Fairey (Franklin Hills/Los Feliz), Karen Volpei-Gussow (Burbank) and Amy Yanow (Hollywood Hills).
“This remarkable group of women demonstrate the truth of the maxim that if you need something done, ask a busy person,” Rep. Schiff said. “Each has worked tirelessly to support a myriad of charitable, business and community causes, and made an indelible mark on our region. I’m honored to recognize these women and show appreciation for their extraordinary work in our community.”
Schiff will present and enter a special tribute into the Congressional Record for each woman. On April 22 he will honor them at a luncheon in Echo Park.
