The shooting death of a young woman in West Hollywood last night is being investigated as part of a murder-suicide now that the body of a man found dead in his vehicle two hours later has been identified as that of her former boyfriend.
The woman, Whitney Jade Washuta, 25, lived on Rosewood Avenue in West Hollywood. Homicide detectives responding to a call at about 8:43 p.m. discovered Fire Station personnel attending to a gunshot wound to her upper torso. Washuta died at the scene.
At around 10:30 p.m. L.A. Police officers discovered the dead body of Kyle Patrick Ramsey, 27, her former boyfriend, in a rented SUV on the 100 block of Croft Avenue. Ramsey was a resident of Pacific Palisades. It has been determined that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
ABC7 reported that Ramsey and Washuta had had a difficult breakup and that Washuta’s sister told detectives there were prior domestic violence issues with the couple.

I am sure that we have occasional murders. This is tragic. It is usually quiet enough to hear a gunshot. This was that close. My condolences to the families.

Printing the picture is the totally appropriate journalistic decision. It provides information. Not printing it denies information. If there were an alternative picture to post, then maybe don’t go with this one. But any reporter and editor would go with it. Journalism isn’t tidy and it isn’t polite. Its purpose is to provide as much information as possible.

Am I the only one who finds it incredibly sad and disturbing to see this photo accompanying such a tragic story? If I were relatives of this young woman, I would be horrified, as clearly it does not portray the true nature of the relationship.
