Crystal Meth Anonymous LA is putting on its annual conference this weekend at Plummer Park and West Hollywood Park in WeHo.
The three-day event begins this evening with registration and a reception at Plummer Park’s Great Hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The weekend events and workshops are open to anyone whether in a meth recovery program or just beginning one.
From 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. there will be a presentation by a speaker at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall.
On Saturday CMALA begins with a yoga session at 7:45 a.m. at Great Hall. From 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and from 2 to 4:30 p.m. there will be a series of workshops on subjects including relationships and intimacy, long term sobriety and meth recovery for women. A full list is available online. A lunch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and a banquet will take place at Fiesta hall from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
After dinner at 7:30 p.m. the event will move to the auditorium at West Hollywood park where there will be another speaker session until 8:30 p.m. From 9 to 10 p.m. there will be a “Sobriety Street” show at the auditorium.
On Sunday, the event moves back to Plummer Park. There will be workshops from 8 to 10 a.m. and a brunch from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Fiesta Hall. The closing meeting will take place at Fiesta Hall from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by a CMALA business meeting from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Methamphetamine addiction is a major issue in the gay community, which makes up 40% of West Hollywood’s population. CMALA is one of several organizations set up to assist those suffering from addiction or in recovery.
