“West Hollywood Is Los Angeles’s Shabby Chic Neighborhood”?
Those of us who live here may beg to differ about “shabby”. But that’s the label from Mansion Global, which bills itself as a “premier digital destination connecting the world’s affluent real estate buyers with prestige properties across the globe…”
Its story about WeHo as a shabby chic enclave is the latest in a list on its website that includes a look at a $12 million Manhattan duplex, the superyachts that it declares “are the epitome of luxury living” and the fact that Marlene Dietrich’s former Westwood home is on the market now for $6.5 million. The story is especially interesting during this time of local debate about WeHo’s status as an “urban village.” It raises the question of whether a village, which traditionally accommodated the hoi polloi, now will be home to those who can’t quite afford the castle any more.
The story errs on several points. No, we don’t have more houses than apartments and condos in WeHo. And if Zach Goldsmith of Hilton & Hyland really knows where one can find an $800-a-month apartment in West Hollywood we hope he’ll share that information (privately).
The story includes a video by Louise Roe, a fashion blogger and TV host from England with the “Received Pronunciation” accent that one heard from Judi Dench and the now deceased Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. Roe gives a tour of her West Hollywood, which includes stops at Violet Grey (“this used to be the stuff you’d have to go to Paris to get”), Verve coffee and Training Mate. That Roe knows something about WeHo is clear from her calling out the ubiquity of muscle and the absence of suits and ties here.
Shabby? Chic? Shabby chic? Or none of that. The story, which can be found here, definitely is worth a look. Let us know what you think.
I am not sure why anyone would would have a problem with this video. This is her experience of West Hollywood. And Jerome, it does not say that Judi Dench is dead, for pity sake.
it did say that and the editor corrected it after my comment
it’s become shabby slum!
Self promotional w zero information unless, of course, about MOI!
It wasn’t shabby chic ’til the self-entitled showed up. Unless you consider Lauren, Lindsay, and D’Amico ‘chic’, and their two recently reelected compatriots ‘shabby’.
I think you just prematurely killed off Judi Dench.
Who the f*** cares. it’s our village and it’s no one else business. And Britch accents are annoying.
Judi Dench is NOT deceased!
