The City of West Hollywood is a co-sponsor of the upcoming WeHo Dodgeball Charity Tournament. The event will help build attention for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and will benefit two local nonprofit organizations.
The tournament will take place on Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., at the West Hollywood Park Auditorium, located at 647 N. San Vicente Blvd., south of Santa Monica. The adult co-ed event will feature food, drinks and raffles, and it will be open to anyone who is 21 years of age or older.
“WeHo Dodgeball is a sensation in West Hollywood,” said West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister. “On the court, competition is fierce. But, off the court, WeHo Dodgeball players are compassionately connected to our community. This tournament is a testament to their spirit of generosity.”
Tournament registration is $25 per person or $250 per team. One-hundred percent of registration proceeds will be split 50/50 to support the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, which serves homeless and hungry people in the West Hollywood vicinity, and the Downtown Women’s Center, which is the only organization in the Los Angeles area exclusively dedicated to addressing needs of women overcoming poverty and homelessness in Skid Row.
Participants are also encouraged to bring “wish list” items as donations, such as canned foods, sauces, condiments, spices, dried pasta, blankets, socks, educational supplies and feminine hygiene products.
“Giving back and having fun — I can’t think of a better combination” said Councilmember Lindsey Horvath. “WeHo Dodgeball is such an inspiration, and it’s wonderful to see people in our community coming together to support two great organizations through this tournament. I’m grateful to Jake Mason and to everyone involved for helping to make a difference.”
WeHo Dodgeball, founded by Jake Mason, is Southern California’s premier adult co-ed dodgeball league with a rotating membership of more than 1,000 players. Its members take part in a wide array of charitable endeavors aimed at strengthening their connection to the West Hollywood community.
