WeHo City Hall Releases Statement Supporting Impeachment of Donald Trump

The City of West Hollywood has issued a press release announcing the City Council’s call for the U.S. House of Representatives to initiate proceedings for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

“Impeachment should be reserved as a last resort,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. “In less than six months in office, President Trump has already violated federal law by attempting to obstruct justice, and his administration is plagued by numerous conflicts of interest. We need to hold him accountable.”

“Ultimately, this is an ethics issue and a legal issue,” said Councilmember Lauren Meister. “The Emoluments Clause clearly states that the President shall not receive any gifts or benefits other than his compensation. No other president in this country’s history has so blatantly disregarded protocol and the Constitution.”

In its announcement, the city said “The City of West Hollywood’s resolution (adopted at the council’s June 19 meeting) comes as a response to numerous violations of the Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution, multiple violations of federal law as it relates to the employment of relatives, serious national security concerns resulting from potential interference with federal elections in 2016, and amid investigations of obstruction of justice with the firing of FBI Director James Comey.”

With the resolution, West Hollywood has joined a growing number of cities, including the California cities of Los Angeles, Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, and Richmond, as well as the Massachusetts cities of Brookline, Cambridge, Amherst, Pelham, and Leverett, in calling for the initiation of impeachment proceedings. Although local municipalities have no authority over any action that the United States Congress may take, local resolutions are a call for Congress to take the first steps toward impeachment proceedings. The District of Columbia and the State of Maryland have filed lawsuits against the President for violating anti-corruption clauses in the Constitution.

The City of West Hollywood will send copies of the resolution to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, California senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris; House Speaker Paul Ryan and U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff as well as to Gov. Jerry Brown, State Senator Ben Allen and State Assemblymember Richard Bloom and to additional public officials and organizations.

In December 2016, the City of West Hollywood reaffirmed its commitment to its core values and is working diligently to defend the fundamental rights of its community members, the announcement said. “The City is monitoring federal proposals and is responding to policy changes that may have a harmful effect on West Hollywood’s residents, including LGBT residents, people with disabilities, seniors, people of color, immigrants, women, and others.”

In February 2017, the West Hollywood City Council approved an item that directs City of West Hollywood staff to take steps in prohibiting West Hollywood City Hall from doing business with entities that provide financial or other benefits to the President of the United States or his revocable trust.

Hope springs eternal, well at least for the next 3.5 years when Trump is re- elected. By the way, I though only crazed Maxine Waters was the only one STILL yelling impeach Mr Mayor. I guess it’s the two of you.

I am TOTALLY anti … But as we all know ONLY the United States Congress can do it. Doesn’t the City have city issues to deal with? Why is city time spent/wasted on “non city issues”?
Have they no local issues? I think residents could easily make a big list of current city issues to focus on.

Impeach Trump? Then we have to deal with President Pence. This seems half baked. Progressives need to figure out how to win elections rather than just throwing public tantrums.

While I do not disagree that the orange man currently living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is a complete doofus and I do applaud WeHo’s efforts to monitor our current government for moves that may cause harm to our residents, isn’t your time better spent addressing some of the many pressing, real issues here at home such as traffic/mass transit, our infrastructure, the homeless, and residents aging in place?

“In his efforts to erase Obama, Trump clearly shows a lack of respect, which mirrors a lack of self respect, thereby continuing to undermine himself and cultivate the seeds of disharmony”. L.R., NYTimes Pick, “Trump’s Obama Obsession” by Charles M. Blow, Op-Ed Columnist June 29, 2017

The shame is that trump has no shame. A disgusting man by nature, he hasn’t a clue on how to run the shower, never mind the country. What a sad time we are living in.

Donald Trump is NOT the best thing to ever happen to America and anyone who thinks he is is delusional.

I just wish our City Council would concentrate on things that pertain to
West Hollywood.

The Orange one is not going to be impeached by a Republican Congress.

I agree with you on the DNC. I have no idea what your position is on WikiLeaks. He brought on that self-serving “environmentalist icon,” Robert Kennedy, exactly because Mr Science (Jr) decided to take on an issue that fools people (except within the scientific community). I don’t disagree on the drug companies, but so far, all talk. Everything is in “two weeks” – check it out, yourself. This idiot CinC is going to start a war with the Russians. The Syrians did not gas their people. He knew that. He went in with tomahawks blazing anyway. https://www.welt.de/politik/ausland/article165905578/Trump-s-Red-Line.html The epitome of… Read more »

Donald Trump is the best thing to ever happen to America. He has people actively involved in politics. He’s the only one to questions the corrupt Big Pharma mainstream media (up to 70% of ad revenues come from the drugging of Americans through pharma ads that are banned in many countries), he’s the only one to let people know we need to talk about spacing out of vaccines (Vaxxed movie; autism up 8000% in usa and rising), he even hired a democrat Robert Kennedy Jr. to head up the commission of vaccine safety), he wants to build a solar wall… Read more »
