WeWork, the coworking office firm, has leased two floors in the Pacific Design Center’s RedBuilding in West Hollywood.
WeWork will occupy the seventh and eighth floors of the building, covering about 70,000 square feet. The RedBuilding is located at 750 San Vicente Blvd. between Melrose and Santa Monica.
WeWork will offer a variety of rental options to small businesses and individuals on month-to-month leases. It isn’t yet clear what rents will be for its WeHo spaces. But a WeWork space on La Brea Avenue between Romaine and Willoughby offers a private office starting at $700 a month, a dedicated desk in an open space shared with others starting at $550 a month and a “hot desk,” or guaranteed desk space in an open room, starting at $350 a month. With the PDC location, WeWorks will have 15 locations in Los Angeles County.
The lease to WeWorks is part of a strategy by the PDC’s owner, Charles Cohen, to attract creative businesses to the three-building complex, initially focused on interior design and home furnishings businesses that catered to the trade rather than retail customers. That market declined during the Great Recession, with many trade vendors opening their doors to retail customers and locating to places more accessible than the PDC to people on the street.
The WeWorks website says the PDC location will offer access to copiers and office supplies, conference rooms, wifi and coffee. It lists 901 Hancock Ave., the city parking structure at Hancock and Santa Monica Boulevard, for parking for its tenants.
Other creative tenants in the RedBuilding are the gay hookup app Grindr, Abrams Artists Agency and Digital Brand Architects.

I recall this form of office tenancy was called a “Fegin Suite” (sic). It gives small businesses, single lawyers et al, the ability to have what appears an office in a large professional office (but there is no association with other renters, they just pay to share basic office facilities copier, fax, network, lobby/waiting area, fancy looking office with general perception that the individual is not just a sole practitioner. Ya know, WeWork has a national contest – the Creator Awards – for small start-up companies many of which are non-profit. Go to wework.com and page to the bottom and select ‘creator awards for the story. Boy, wouldn’t it be a great idea of our city fathers and mothers who meet directly across from this property invested just a little of the city’s nest egg or if the city council candidates with excess funds who are mandated to put that money into a non-profit – made a groundbreaking investment in the local non-profits in need of an office.
