I typically don’t cry watching music videos. But this one made me lose it because it reminded me so much of my own story. It shows the struggle of our community to feel accepted and normal. When Macklemore’s “Same Love” song came out, I didn’t like it. How can you know, I asked, what our struggle has been like? You weren’t in the third grade struggling with “I think I’m gay but mom says I’m not and also I realize I’m not.” However, once I sat down and listened to what Macklemore was saying I really enjoyed the song. The reason this video is so powerful is the way they shot it — the video story and words of the song are one and the same. This video also shows just how monotonous the gay app scene can be with random sexual partners. It’s a great and happy ending and I can’t wait to see more from Culture Gay. Watch
