Only Four Vehicle Burglaries Reported in WeHo Last Week

Below is the weekly crime report from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station that calls out incidents in WeHo from Aug. 14 to Aug. 20. The list includes each case number.

August 14

Grand Theft. 700 block Huntley Drive between 12:04 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. An unknown suspect removed three suitcases containing clothing that were left unsecured in the parking garage. Loss $1,350. #04320

Residential Burglary. 7700 block Fountain Avenue between 7:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. An unknown suspect removed the window screen of an open bedroom window to gain access and ransacked the interior. The suspect removed jewelry from a cabinet in the living room. Loss $35,000. #04344

Vehicle Burglary. 7100 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 8 and 10 p.m. An unknown suspect forced the driver’s side window down to gain access and removed paperwork from the glove box. Loss $40. #04390

Grand Theft. 8400 block West Sunset Boulevard Between Aug. 15 and Aug. 20. An unknown suspect removed diamond earrings from a woman’s purse. Loss $20,000. #04485

Other Burglary 500 block Robertson Boulevard at 5:58 a.m. An unknown suspect used a crow bar and sledge hammer on the front door to gain entry and removed jewelry and two jewelry display cases. Loss $4,000. #04353

Residential Burglary (Attempt). 7600 block Lexington Avenue at 4:30 am. An unknown suspect used force and attempted to break the deadbolt lock on the front door but was unsuccessful. Loss $50 (lock). #04358

Strong Arm Robbery. 9000 block Beverly Boulevard at 8:45 p.m. A man removed lotion, razors, and miscellaneous toiletries from the display area and left the store without payment. When confronted by an employee, the suspect punched the victim in the face and fled the area. Loss unknown. #04370

August 16

Other Burglary. 1000 block North Sierra Bonita Avenue between at 9 a.m. and 7 a.m. An unknown suspect cut the lock to a storage unit in the unsecured parking garage and removed a box of winter clothing. Loss $250. #04392

August 17

Grand Theft. 7300 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 12:18 and 12:21 p.m. An unknown suspect removed a laptop computer from the front desk after an employee left the business unattended for a few minutes. Loss $2,000. #04398

August 18

Strong Arm Robbery. Melrose Avenue / Robertson Boulevard at 2:40 a.m. A man was walking north bound on Robertson Boulevard when a man approached him and asked if he could use the victim’s phone to call home. Two other men approached the victim from behind and shoved him to the ground. A short struggle ensued and the victim’s phone was pulled from his hand. All three suspects ran to a vehicle that was parked nearby and fled the area. Loss $1,000. #04417

August 19

Grand Theft (Suspect Arrested) Hacienda Place / Holloway Drive at 10:15 pm. A man refused to return a ring he had taken from his friend. The suspect was arrested. Loss $5,000 (recovered). #04454

Residential Burglary (Attempt). 1000 block North Genesee Avenue between Aug. 19 and Aug. 21. An unknown suspect tampered with the front door knob in an attempt to gain entry but was unsuccessful. Loss $50 (doorknob lock). #04494

Strong Arm Robbery. 8800 block Melrose Avenue 1:08 p.m. A man and three women removed purses from the display area and ran to the front door. A security guard tried to stop them from leaving and was pushed to the ground. An employee of the store was also pepper sprayed in the face by one of the female suspects. All four suspects ran from the store and fled the area in a vehicle that was parked nearby. Loss $32,000. #04448

Vehicle Burglary. 9000 block Norma Place between 2 and 6 a.m. An unknown suspect removed a laptop computer from the trunk. No sign of forced entry. Loss $1,000. #04440

Vehicle Burglary. 1000 block Hilldale Avenue between Aug. 19 and Aug. 21. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window but nothing was taken. Loss $300. #04483

August 20

Armed Robbery. 8500 block Melrose Avenue at noon. A male employee was at his vehicle to retrieve change for a customer when he was approached from behind by two men. One of the suspects held a knife to the victim while the other suspect took a tablet computer, cell phone, and cash from the vehicle. Both suspects fled the area on foot. Loss $1,000. #04466

Armed Robbery (Suspect Arrested). 1100 block La Brea Avenue at 12:42 pm. A homeless man removed several items from store shelfs and left the store without payment. When confronted outside of the store by security, the suspect began to swing his arms and struck the victim in the chest. The suspect then picked up a metal sign that was nearby and began to swing it at the victim. The suspect walked back into the store and began knocking bottles of alcohol from the shelfs. The suspect pulled a fire extinguisher from the wall and began swinging the extinguisher at the victim. A second security guard arrived and helped detain the suspect until deputies arrived. Deputies responded and arrested the suspect. Loss $200 (broken alcohol bottles). #04467

Vehicle Burglary. 8700 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear window and removed a backpack containing clothing from the trunk. The backpack was searched and left on the ground near the vehicle. Loss $700 (window). #04480

Vehicle Burglary. 1000 block Orange Grove Avenue at 11 p.m. A man was inside his residence when he noticed three men standing near his vehicle and one man sitting inside of the vehicle with the doors open. The man confronted the suspects, causing them to run away. Responding deputies located and arrested one of the suspects. No sign of forced entry. No loss. #04502

For the past two months I have been comparing the weekly crime report from the sheriff with the Police Blotter printed each week in the Park La Brea News which arrives on my doorstep each Thursday morning. A singular discrepancy is the apparent omission of several assaults from the sheriff’s report but always noted in the paper. What first attracted me to the noted assaults was that many took place in very public places and many during time when the streets should be busy.
