A month-long drive to collect clothing for homeless LGBTQ young people will be launched on Tuesday at L.A. City Hall.
L.A. City Controller Ron Galperin, City Council members Mitch O’Farrell and Mike Bonin and Simon Costello of the Los Angeles LGBT Center will kick off the drive in which city employees and City Hall visitors are asked to drop off professional-quality clothing, shoes and accessories for those homeless young people to wear to job interviews and at work. They will discuss the challenges faced by homeless LGBTQ job seekers and how Angelenos can make a difference at a critical juncture in their lives. Also present will be Andre Vargas, a 20-year-old Los Angeles resident who has completed three internships and two seasonal jobs with the aid of donated professional clothing.
The event takes place at 9:05 a.m. at the forecourt of Los Angeles City Hall outside the third-floor rotunda, 200 N. Spring St. in downtown Los Angeles.
