Sept. 7: Full Moon Hikes on Mount Hollywood

Want to see the lights of Hollywood, DTLA, Burbank and the San Fernando Valley while hiking above them during the full moon, without a flashlight? And maybe have dinner afterwards in the company of some great guys? Then join Great Outdoors and California Mens Gatherings as they come together for their once-a-month “Thursday-Closest-to-the-Full-Moon Hike.”

This easy 90-minute hike is about three miles up Charlie Turner’s Trail (with a few hundred feet elevation gain) from the trailhead in the Griffith Park Observatory parking lot up past Dante’s View to the spectacular views on the peak of Mount Hollywood, which some refer to as the “McDaddy” of Los Angeles hiking trails. This is the same route as Great Outdoors’ Monday night hike.

While there is free parking in the Griffith Park Observatory parking lot, Great Outdoors LA strongly encourages carpooling and public transportation because the lot can fill up and you’ll have to park along the road down the hill.

Hikers are advised to wear walking/hiking shoes and bring water and a jacket because it gets cool at the top some evenings.
