“Pick Up” | Joshua Alan Rogers

This video does an amazing job showing the stigma that still exists in our community toward individuals who are HIV positive. It was released the other day on National Gay Men’s HIV Awareness Day. Its powerful message is that being HIV positive is nothing like it was 20 to 30 years ago.  People infected with HIV can still lead normal and healthy lives.

It’s the story of Jesse, a driver for Pick Up, a ride-sharing service in L.A., who’s fallen for a handsome passenger until he shares his secret of being HIV positive, which threatens to steer them both off course. The film stars talented actors like lead Travor Thompson (“Switched at Birth”), Louis Hunter (“The Fosters”) and Marque Richardson (“Dear White People”). I hope it helps wake us to the fact that people who are HIV positive are not “unclean.” So long as they take their medication and remain “undetectable” they can live normal lives and enjoy loving and sexual life. Everyone should do his research work to erase this negative stigma from our culture. Watch
