Marjorie Gilberg has been named the new executive director of NCJW | LA. Gilberg will replace Hillary Selvin, who is moving to Montana at the end of the year after 13 years at the non-profit organization.
“Hillary has been instrumental in the growth of NCJW | LA and leaves an impressive legacy of accomplishments that have moved NCJW | LA forward,” said Board President Helen Davidov. “The board enthusiastically welcomes Marjorie to NCJW | LA and looks forward to working together to continue and grow our vital work in community services and social justice.”
The L.A. chapter of the National Council for Jewish Women is known for its advocacy on issues that affect women, children and families in the areas of children’s rights, economic justice, healthcare, human trafficking, immigration reform, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights and gender-related violence. It serves more than 12,000 individuals through its community mental health and supportive services, scholarships, Talkline, youth educational programs and services, Back 2 School Store, intern training programs and clothing assistance projects.
Gilberg has experience at a variety of nonprofits, including House of Blues Music Forward Foundation and Break the Cycle, a national organization fighting domestic violence.
“The Council’s commitment to action, advocacy and activism on behalf of women and families is unparalleled. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to impact a tremendous organization at such a pivotal time,” Gilberg said.
Gilberg earned a Nathan Cummings Social Justice Fellowship while receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and Ethnicities and minor in Bioethics from the University of Southern California.
