West Hollywood has been home to events celebrating awards (the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, to name two).
Now it will host a national awards event. The Global Poker Index (GPI) has announced that its Feb. 22 American Poker Awards event will be at the Andaz hotel on Sunset Boulevard. In years past the event took place at the SLS Beverly Hills, which is on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles.
GPI operates a patent-pending ranking platform covering live tournament poker players across the world. Its National Rankings ranks players by region and country, with 20 different national rankings. The results are used by media around the world in covering poker events.
“We are very excited to return to the Los Angeles area for a fourth straight year to reward the most deserving poker players, industry leaders and media members in the business,” said American Poker Awards President Alexandre Dreyfus in an announcement of the event.
PokerNews.com, a website that covers poker worldwide, reported that the top male and top female player’s on the GPI’s points ranking system are Adrian Mateos of Spain and Kristen Bicknell of Canada. Other likely award categories include Industry Person of the Year, Media Person of the Year, Tournament Performance of the Year and Breakout Performance of the Year.
This event seems like a gamble
