Feb 17 – The Future is Black: Reclaiming Our Power

Where: The Village At Ed Gould Plaza – 11125 N. McCadden Place,  Los Angeles

The Future is Black: Reclaiming Our Power” is a celebration in honor of Black History Month hosted by the Los Angeles LGBT Center. The day will include workshops, award presentations, live performances, an art exhibit, lunch, a resource fair,and an assembly to honor Black history, culture and the power of our future.  Workshops include “Our Time Now: The Power of the Black Vote and Bridging the Gap Between the LGBTQ and Black Community” facilitated by Christian Walker, Los Angeles regional director, California Young Democrats Black Caucus; “Unleash Your Personal Power!” facilitated by coach Kerri R. Smith-Osei, a certified LGBT life coach; “Black Queer Stories: Storytelling Past, Present, and Future” facilitated by Gerald Garth, manager of programs and operations, AMAAD Institute; “From Profile Pic to Real Life: The Story of Online Dating” facilitated by Percival Pandy, linkage coordinator, Black AIDS Institute, and “Don’t Yuck My Yum” facilitated by Victoria Alexander, health education specialist, and Isaac Arredondo, outreach coordinator, Community Health Programs, Los Angeles LGBT Center.
