The race is on! City Councilmember Lauren Meister today announced a fundraising event on May 16 at Micky’s to launch her re-election campaign.

In an email announcing the campaign, Meister listed members of the honorary host committee Michael Niemeyer, of Micky’s, Tom Doherty and Rick Bicanovsky of Cafe D’Etoile, Marta Knittel and Shoshana Joseph of Yogurt Stop, Nicklaus Fox, who performs as Helen Back with Weho Cheer, and Bobby Trendy,

The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the bar, which is located at 8857 Santa Monica Blvd. Suggested donations range from $500, the maximum allowed by law, to $25.

Those attending are asked to RSVP online.

Meister occupies one of three seats on the five-member Council that are up for re-election in March 2019. Councilmember John D’Amico already has announced that he intends to run again. Councilmember Lindsey Horvath has yet to announce but is expected to.

Several challengers already have emerged. They include Duke Mason, a member of the city’s Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board and a previous candidate; Timothy Williams, who is head of a production company called Haus of Liontruth; Tom deMille, a local artist who was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2013 election, and Eric Schmidt, who describes himself as a former fitness training and who has gotten attention with his promotion of online videos depicting him having sex with other men.

Clearly the best most responsible, thoughtful, community driven WH council member EVER. The rest have been bought and paid for by big developers. Shameful.

This article was about Lauren Meister who has long shown her dedication and openness to views not necessarily her own. She does not appear as though she is looking for a crown on her head, she is invested in the work.

For others to hijack the comments here is unreasonable and discouraging as that is a path leading nowhere.

I appreciate Lauren Meister. I plan on Voting for her. I told her that at the Tree planting event on Arbor Day at Plummer Park. She and I had our Picture taken together at the event which is on my website. I don’t agree with her having fund raising events, because I don’t believe in taking campaign donations. There is no need for that if you present your platform and people like you, they will Vote for you, she has the additional benefit of her serving a term for people to evaluate. It is just a basic difference in our… Read more »

The article was about Lauren Meister. Other candidates were mentioned along with their noted public profile or presence. No opportunity seems lost on a possible event hijacking, be it a tree planting, parade or myriad photo ops to lend credibility to a circle of presumed acquaintances. It’s akin to photo bombing an unsuspecting individual. Actions of such nature appear manipulative, untrustworthy and offensive. The thoughts expressed here are of a descriptive nature and by no means hateful. Unware of any requirement to be affiliated with facebook or any other entity posting a photo. Many people in the community do fruitful… Read more »

Read my website if you want to know my plans for the people of West Hollywood, that is if you read anything other than Wehoville. I have a platform on my website, but it might take you three minutes of your attention and I know most people only have a 30 second attention span. This reminds me of the Trump lovers who only watch Fox news. There are other things to read than Wehoville. My comment about Dudesnude was in response to Henry’s bringing it up again. So in fact Henry is the one promoting my Dudesnude Profile not me.… Read more »

More important than having a nude website (and how many or who is viewing said website) or not having a nude website is what you intend to do for the people and the City of WeHo.

I get a daily report on dudesnude of every e mail address who looks at my profile. how often, how long and the time of day.

It is surprising who is looking at me on a regular basis.

It doesn’t matter who is looking at you nude. What matters is that someone who has a nude website doesn’t belong on our City Council.

What does that have to do with anything? Eric, as an exhibitionist, you seem to be thriving on the attention you are getting. I believe you are abusing the political process in this city to get more attention to your page. Also, as other commenters have pointed out, didn’t you say you won’t be commenting on WEHOville articles anymore? That didn’t last long. I’m going to guess that you won’t respond to this. More signatures should be required to run for City Council. This reminds me of when the porn star ran for Governor after the recall campaign in CA,… Read more »

Surprising indeed. But not for the reason you think.
