‘Sexhibitionist’ Eric Jon Schmidt Pulls Out of WeHo City Council Race

Eric Jon Schmidt has withdrawn from the March 2019 race for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council.

In an email message sent this morning to members of the City Council, City Manager Paul Arevalo and City Clerk Yvonne Quarker, Schmidt said he was withdrawing from the race because he and Jack Cline have purchased a house in Hollywood and are leaving West Hollywood. Cline, Schmidt’s long-time companion who he calls his best friend, also had declared his intention to run for City Council.

Schmidt’s withdrawal from the race ends a campaign that generated coverage around the world when WEHOville revealed that his promise of transparency included a link on his Facebook page to a page on DudesNude.com, a porn website. Schmidt’s page there includes photos and videos of him have sex with other men.

While he promoted his DudesNude site, Schmidt was angered by WEHOville’s reporting on it, which led to a flurry of email attacks and libelous statements from him. However, Schmidt, who describes himself online as a “horny little sexhibitionist,” also embraced his presence on DudesNude. He claimed that 7,000 of his followers on the porn site were West Hollywood residents who had pledged to vote for him. That would be a greater number than the 6,498 residents who voted in the 2017 City Council election.

Schmidt was known for his almost daily emails to City Council members, most excoriating them for their actions and threatening to fire or cut the salaries of City Hall staff. His own history remains somewhat murky. He has said he has volunteered with organizations such as Heal the Bay and Project Angel Food and that he helps the disabled deal with employment, legal, medical, financial and housing issues. He has served in the U.S. Army and as a fitness trainer to celebrities and “showboys and showgirls” in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Cline is a nurse.

Schmidt and Cline’s withdrawals leave only two challengers so far in the race to fill three Council seats currently occupied by John D’Amico, Lindsey Horvath and Lauren Meister. D’Amico and Meister have announced they are seeking re-election. Horvath has yet to announce.

The other challengers who have filed the required paperwork to date are Timothy Williams and Duke Mason. Williams will be the first African-American City Council candidate since the incorporation of West Hollywood in 1984. Mason was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2015 election and currently serves on the city’s Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board. Tom deMille, who has run unsuccessfully several times in the past, has said he will be a candidate but has not requested or filed the necessary paperwork.

Eric Jon Schmidt must be doing something right if his detractors keep consistently posting extensive comments about how they are so completely over him that they are never giving him a second thought but, will keep writing about just how over him they really are! Let me guess, the WEHOville commentators really mean it this time for sure? To remove any and all doubt they are so completely over Eric Jon Schmidt, the “I’m over Eric Jon Schmidt” T-shirts, hats, buttons and, bumper stickers will be on sale from the next detractor’s link posted in their comment, right? This is… Read more »

I might keep the Apartment in West Hollywood and re-enter the race if no viable candidates come forward. I will shift my support to whomever steps up to run against the Current Council.

Your comment below: “I will say that the story on Wehoville put my followers on Dudesnude over 3 million. It got me 150,000 new followers. And an offer to write a book about me. So thank you for that. And thanks to all you guys who look at my Dudesnude profile, you know who you are and so do I.” — Oh, please, let us know if and when you re-enter the race, and let us know how much more you’ve abused the West Hollywood Democratic process to increase traffic to your Dudesnude profile. I love the way you complained… Read more »

Many of us live in West Hollywood due to it’s proximity to work. We never visit Santa Monica Blvd……and have nothing to do with people like this.
This area is changing…….and many are tired of being a freak show city.

two weeks ago the boyfriend jumps in and then the next week they both jump out…. if these ‘candidates’ did not pull a campaign number from the state- – (city doesn’t issue election papers till December) then my advice is not publish this garbage without validating a candidates real intentions, proven with deeds, not words – it’s turns a first rate news worthy local site into the national enquirer and your better than that and he was not ‘for real’ and the only thing that made him real was wehoville journalism /

Anyone who moved from WeHo to LA as a homeowner will quickly learn how lucky he or she had it here. Good luck dealing with the city on basic homeowner issues, let alone ever having contact with people in charge let alone the elected officials. In WeHo as the inevitable issues come up, you contact the person you need and get a response, usually one that solves the problem. You have an issue with traffic or other street concerns? Noise problems? Vastly better resolution in WeHo. Why? Because of our very responsible and professional and approachable city government agencies, which… Read more »

You make it sound like I’m leaving the State. I will be in weho often. There are a couple good restaurants I like that are worth the drive down the hill. Other than that, unless you’re a bar fly there is NOTHING to do in WEHO. Besides, I like diversity in people. I like white people like me, but I like people of other colors too.

Wow this guy is a piece of work. I already feel that the city is better now that the traitor and self-hating attention seeker is gone. Going to visit one of our many peaceful, beautiful parks/museums and breathe in a sigh of relief.

Did you even read what he wrote. He’s talking about the services offered by the City. Not what businesses are here. Now hit the road hack.

Indeed, as someone who lived in West Hollywood for 7 years, and moved half block over the border for the last 12 years, I can firmly say that West Hollywood is a more efficiently-run city. None of this has to do with what businesses are there. It is the local government. West Hollywood handles resident issues, small and large, with greater efficiency than the City of LA. Not to mention the liberal political activism, and having things like a Transgender Advisory Board, Lesbian & Gay Advisory Board, Senior Advisory Board, Women’s Advisory Board, etc.. West Hollywood isn’t all about “bars… Read more »

I was never going to vote for this guy anyway – not because of his embarrassing porn credits, need to brag about “fans” and “followers,” or his uninformed, silly ideas about city government – but because of his Rampant penchant to Capitalize random Words that Should not Be capitalizing, Just for Emphasis. If you don’t understand the proper use of fifth-grade-level punctuation, how can you understand the complexities of city government?

I also wonder how this guy’s identity as a renters’ advocate is going to change, now that he has to pay property taxes.

Good luck Los Angeles, good luck.

He bailed before the papers were even pulled just proving all his talk was BS. And the partner the toilet paper that wiped up his crap. Glad they both flushed themselves down the toilet.

Tom,

Perhaps after visiting my website and read the section “My Platform and Recent Decision”, you will understand. My website has been retooled from my campaign website to a website about West Hollywood. wehoeric.com

The hate spewed here just never stops. You just keep showing the World your true colors with your hateful comments. I will say that the story on Wehoville put my followers on Dudesnude over 3 million. It got me 150,000 new followers. And an offer to write a book about me. So thank you for that. And thanks to all you guys who look at my Dudesnude profile, you know who you are and so do I. And Since I have over 13,000 views on my campaign website, I’m leaving it up, retooling it and using it to show the… Read more »

We’re so glad you care so much about the little people, perched high above it all in your new Hollywood “dream house.” We’ll be just fine without you. And let the universal forces be as they may. If we are going Beverly Hills East, so be it. I welcome the change and the improvements in the making. The city has been kind of trashy for way too long. It will be for conscious people of all races. It’s a vacation resort area now. That’s what brings people here. And it’s great. We border Beverly Hills so it’s a matter of… Read more »

So you are basically publicly bragging about an increase of traffic to your Dudesnude profile, having used the West Hollywood Democratic process to get you there? It isn’t just WEHOville’s reporting that put you there, it was your choice to run for office. You don’t see anything wrong with that? If your intentions were sincere, you wouldn’t even mention the increase in traffic to your site, because it isn’t relevant. Yet you’ve bragged about the number multiple times. That, to me, says it all. You wanted the attention. I don’t believe in your 150K or 13K numbers above, anymore than… Read more »
