The West Hollywood North Neighborhood Association will hold a meeting Tuesday to review a proposed mixed-use project for 8555 Santa Monica Blvd. at West Knoll that has sparked criticism from nearby residents and the adjacent Ramada Plaza hotel.
The building is a project of Soto Capital LP, which is connected with Behnam Soroudi, who also has extensive real estate interests through his Ruby Group, Harper Enterprises and other companies. The architect is DFH Architects.
Local architect Ric Abramson, who lives in the neighborhood, will be at the meeting to answer questions about the project.
An announcement of the meeting notes the complexity of the project, which will be five stories tall with 34,000 square feet of commercial space. It will have 12 “live-work” units, designed for people who work from home, and 97 residential units, 22 of which will be set aside for moderate- and low-income residents.
“While many of us have seen the renderings, there is much more inside the building which will transform our neighborhood, such as restaurant(s), offices, parking garages and over 100 apartments,” says the announcement. “With all these moving parts, it’s hard to imagine what our neighborhood transformation will ultimately look like!”
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. this coming Tuesday at the conference room at the Ramada Plaza, which is located at 8585 Santa Monica Blvd. just west of West Knoll.
Brightly colored and trendy but still unimaginative, aggressive soul crushing project similar to DFH past portfolio. It chokes the adjacent residential neighborhoods between the corridors. It proposes to replace a project of human proportions with one that has only institutional identity. There is an opportunity to evolve something mid way.
It appears the same. Seems plans are pushing through and this “Neighborhood Meeting” is just for show. The residents of WeHo have no voice.
Rose, this meeting is being organized by the neighborhood association not the developer. Ric is not working for the developer, he is a renowned architect who is going to analyze and explain the possible effects that this project may have on the surrounding area. As I am the Vice President of WHNNA I and the other board members of this organization encourage you and others to attend.
Now that the City of West Hollywood has turned Sunset Blvd. into a parking lot, they are intending to do the same thing on Santa Monica Blvd. People have no idea how disruptive this project will be. The businesses and residents in the area are the ones who will suffer the most. This will take at least four years if approved.
