Marina Morozova, the pedestrian hit by a car while crossing Santa Monica Boulevard in the early morning hours of Sept. 24, died on Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Her death was reported to WEHOville by a friend of Morozova. Morozova, 30, who lived in West Hollywood and in nearby areas, was a pilates instructor and a young dancer with a large following.
Friends of Morozova have set up a Go Fund Me account to raise money for a memorial and for donation to an appropriate charity. As of publication of this story, friends of Morozova have raised $31,817 of their $50,000 goal. Morozova, who was born in Russia, apparently has no family members in the United States.
Morozova was walking just outside the crosswalk on Santa Monica Boulevard near Westbourne when she was struck by a car around 3 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies determined that the driver had not been drinking and was not in violation of the law.
“At the night of the incident she went to Petit Ermitage,” said a close friend of.Morozova who asked that her name not be used. “She used to hang out there on a regular basis. She love to dance all the time and she was very spiritual. Always helped everyone even when she didn’t had much. Beautiful soul!”
Morozova’s skills as a performer were called out by one man who posted on the Go Fund Me Page a photo of her performing as the Dormouse in “Alice in Wonderland: at the Forest Theatre in Carmel. “Marina was deeply loved amongst the Monterey County Theater community, and our hearts are broken,” he wrote.
Morozova was a graduate of the Tomsk College of Culture and Arts in Tomsk, Siberia, and of the Monterey Peninsula College.

I am the man mentioned in the article, from Monterey County. I was hoping Marina would come back to us and build a home life here. For anybody who reads this, if you have something you need to say to someone, do it, while you still can. That is the lesson, don’t learn it the hard way.

RIP. WeHoville should not repeat the victim blaming narrative that the driver and the police peddle. “was walking just outside the crosswalk”, “determined that the driver had not been drinking and was not in violation of the law”? How do they know these things? Maybe she was in the crosswalk and the impact threw her out? How did the driver fail to see a person in front of them? Were they speeding? Looking at their phone? That is a controlled intersection. If the driver were not breaking the law, that means the driver had a green light and pedestrian had a do-not-walk signal that made it illegal for her to cross the street when she did. If the pedestrian had not been breaking the law, the driver would have had a red light and would have been coming to a stop, or would have already stopped, when the pedestrian got a walk signal and she would have been safe. Wehobea, you are spot on. I am so tired of everyone blaming the drivers. I see pedestrians cross on red lights all the time, most often on my own street at Flores and Santa Monica Blvd. They just give you a mad look if you honk at them, because you have the right to go. It’s called taking responsibility for your actions.

There’s enough hurt and sadness in the world without your inconsiderate and unsolicited speculation. Please consider finding a better way to focus your misdirected anger in the future.
Is it really important who fault is it? A person has died. There are so many bad drivers in L.A and of course, almost everyone looking at their phones while driving because they can’t miss a like on their stupid social media. When someone drives a car, he/she has to know that they are responsible to drive safe and avoid accidents even if it’s not their fault. The same as if they carry a gun.
Pedestrians look at their phones while walking, too, bob.
The police have ways of knowing where a person was struck. They can measure the tire skid marks to know how fast the driver was going, and a number of other ways to recreate that moment.
The operator of a motor vehicle is required by law to have a significantly higher “duty of care” than a pedestrian. This has to do with the large difference in their abilities to do harm. NO Marina was NOT looking at her cell phone during the accident and, she may have been in the cross walk as her camera was found in the cross walk and confirmed from photos taken by Eric Jon Schmidt at the scene.
