Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders.  When it comes to people seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination as its 2020 presidential candidate, the list keeps getting longer.

But what about Pete Buttigieg? And just who is Pete Buttigieg (pronounced BOOT-a-jedge)?  He’s the openly gay mayor of South Bend, Ind., and he will be in West Hollywood on Thursday to tell you what he’s all about.

Buttigieg, known as Mayor Pete, will be at Bar Lubitsch at 7702 Santa Monica Blvd. on the city’s Eastside from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. for a “meet and greet.”   The event is free, and those attending are asked to RSVP to Lily@PeteforAmerica.com.

Buttigieg, 37, is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard and a Rhodes Scholar, and he’s married.  In 2011, at the age of 29, he was elected mayor of South Bend, a classic Midwestern city with a population of 102,000 people.  He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and took an unpaid seven months leave during his mayoral term for a deployment to Afghanistan.  He and his husband, Chasten, are parents to two rescue dogs, Truman and Buddy.

An announcement of his appearance in West Hollywood says “Some say he doesn’t have a shot, but Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Obama were largely unknowns until they ran for President.  The Washington Post wrote about him  and they haven’t ruled him out either.”

“Don’t rely on tv, when you can meet the Presidential candidates in person, to form your own opinion of who’s the best person for the job,” the announcement says.

Answering the question, What if you threw a town hall meeting and no one knew about it?

Next time the nation’s first openly gay major party candidate for president is coming to Weho, I hope the local organizers do a better job publicizing the event.

And for Pete’s sake! — book a venue with the capacity to easily handle hundreds of supporters—or more. West Hollywood Park, Plummer Park, the PDC’s 4th fl plaza between Blue+Green bldgs, the Tower Records event space/parking lot. #sizematters

Bad planning. I would have gone had I known before tonight. I hope he returns. He needs 65,000 donors to join the stage in June. He could easily collect those in California.

Mayor Pete is a terrific and natural politician.
I signed up for his tweets but do not remember seeing this announcement.
I was going to take some friends to Lubitsch this afternoon – and sit outside. Bad idea…

I’ve been informed that this event (on Thursday) is sold out. But the organizers of this event have been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming positive response from West Hollywood and Los Angeles, and they are already planning future visits by the mayor.

Stay tuned …

A class act Mayor coming to town compared to what happened last week with our ex-Mayor who should resign immediately. I moved here from New York in December and after reading the stories on Duran I’m changing my city from West Hollywood to Los Angeles 90046!

FYI- It’s Mayor Pete not Mayor Mike as it’s written in the headline 🙂

His CNN Townhall was incredibly refreshing. The more he’s in front of the camera the more I think the rest of the country will get on board with him. Really great.
