Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders. When it comes to people seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination as its 2020 presidential candidate, the list keeps getting longer.

But what about Pete Buttigieg? And just who is Pete Buttigieg (pronounced BOOT-a-jedge)? He’s the openly gay mayor of South Bend, Ind., and he will be in West Hollywood on Thursday to tell you what he’s all about.

Buttigieg, known as Mayor Pete, will be at Bar Lubitsch at 7702 Santa Monica Blvd. on the city’s Eastside from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. for a “meet and greet.” The event is free, and those attending are asked to RSVP to [email protected].

Buttigieg, 37, is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard and a Rhodes Scholar, and he’s married. In 2011, at the age of 29, he was elected mayor of South Bend, a classic Midwestern city with a population of 102,000 people. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve and took an unpaid seven months leave during his mayoral term for a deployment to Afghanistan. He and his husband, Chasten, are parents to two rescue dogs, Truman and Buddy.

An announcement of his appearance in West Hollywood says “Some say he doesn’t have a shot, but Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Obama were largely unknowns until they ran for President. The Washington Post wrote about him and they haven’t ruled him out either.”

“Don’t rely on tv, when you can meet the Presidential candidates in person, to form your own opinion of who’s the best person for the job,” the announcement says.
