A West Hollywood man entered a no contest plea today for attacking a victim with an ax at a convenience store in 2017, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today. Deputy District Attorney Shane Michael said Kisu Brown, 43, entered the plea to one count of attempted voluntary manslaughter. Brown also admitted inflicting great bodily injury on the victim during the commission of the crime and using an ax as a deadly and dangerous weapon. Sentencing is scheduled Aug. 29 in Department W82 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch. The defendant faces more than nine years in state prison. On Sept. 2, 2017, Brown was confronted by a clerk at the West Hollywood 7-Eleven convenience store on Santa Monica at Hayworth for shoplifting. A man in the store became involved in the dispute, the defendant then confronted him and a struggle ensued inside the store, according to evidence presented at the preliminary hearing. Brown then exited the establishment but stopped outside the door. When the man left the store, the defendant attacked him with an ax and struck him repeatedly, including on the head, the prosecutor said. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, West Hollywood Station. |
9 years. He should be locked up, and the keys thrown away.
I won’t go near any convenience store open late at night. I have seen too many strange individuals hanging out in the front of these shops.Any shopping will have to wait until daytime hours. The same goes for outside ATMs.
I remembered this attack happened at 1 AM in the morning. It just isn’t worth it to be accosted just because you want corn chips, cigarettes or liquor.
Why did you fail to mention whether or not the victim died or had serious injuries?
The victim was seriously injured but did survive. He has declined to be interviewed.
One important detail left out of your story is that the victim offered to pay for the defendant’s items and the defendant got mad. Your article misses that, making it seem like the victim has some fault in this – which he does not.
I wonder what is the condition of the man who was attacked? How serious were his injuries and has he recovered? As I recall the victim got involved when he volunteered to pay for the items Brown was trying to steal.
