There were 10 vehicle burglaries in West Hollywood last week, a relatively quiet week with only 15 incidents of Part 1 (serious) crimes reported to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The station did not release crime reports for the previous two weeks because the crime analyst was on vacation

July 15
Grand Theft. 600 NorthRobertson Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. An unknown suspect removed a leather bag containing two cell phones that was left momentarily unattended on the bar countertop. #04717
Residential Burglary. 1100 block Sherbourne Drive between 12:01 and 6 a.m. An unknown suspect used an unlocked front door to gain entry and removed a laptop computer and charging cord from the living room. #04741
Vehicle Burglary. 8200 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 4:45 p.m. A man smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a backpack containing a tablet computer and headphones from the back seat. #04719
Vehicle Burglary. 600 block Croft Avenue between 3 and 4:45 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear windshield and removed a purse containing a laptop computer, eye glasses, and sunglasses from the trunk. The suspect also removed a backpack containing a laptop computer from the trunk. #04721
Vehicle Burglary. 8600 block Sunset Boulevard between 9 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed two purses from the front seat. The purses were found on the ground near the vehicle. #04723

Strong Arm Robbery (Suspect Arrested). 8300 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 5:45 p.m. A man removed three bottles of alcohol and left the store without payment. When confronted by an employee, the suspect pushed the employee to the ground and then began struggling with store security members. The suspect was detained by store security and arrested by responding deputies. #04762

Burglary. 900 block Gardner Street at 4:40 a.m. Two men cut the lock and removed a bicycle from the underground parking garage of the apartment complex. #04920
Vehicle Burglary. 1100 block NorthHarper Avenue at 1:45 p.m. A man smashed the rear driver’s side window and removed a bag containing a laptop computer and passport from the back seat. #04819
Vehicle Burglary. 8500 block Sunset Boulevard between 6:50 and 11:08 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a laptop computer from the rear floorboard and $100 cash from the center console. #04828
Vehicle Burglary. 1200 block NorthOrange Grove between 9:28 p.m. and 8:55 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front driver’s side window and removed a handicap placard and a mounted driving camera from the front windshield. #04839.
Vehicle Burglary. 1200 block North La Brea Avenue between 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. the next day. 600-1600. An unknown suspect cut the soft top of a car to gain access and removed a seat cover and cell phone charger from the interior. #04843

Had my rental car window ‘smashed’ early Monday morning. Fairfax district, it was my first time staying in the area overnight. The theft was my fault I left a bag of clothes next to the window, luckily they didn’t open any doors and grab more valuable items around the car not visible. Learned my lesson, and didn’t waste time calling the police. I knew what they would say anyway, and I didn’t want to hear their excuses. Thought I would post so at least others know, Clinton and N. Fairfax. Stay safe out there!
Too many burglaries are happening and it is by force and entry and more and more armed robberies are occurring throughout the years it seems to be only rising that in my former neighborhood bordering Willoughby east of Fairfax and west of Gardner the city lines are blurrred and there are many alleyways that people are laying in wait! Perhaps the time has come for West Hollywood to create its own Police Department, because the LA County Sherrif’s don’t seem to be able to adequately protect the residents and visitors to our city. I can’t think of the last time I’ve seen a Sherrif’s Deputy patrol car driving the side streets of WeHo. Additionally, on the two occasions I’ve called the Sherrif’s Department to report suspicious activity, I was told that they were very busy and would try to send a patrol car as soon as possible. If we took the money we pay on our contract with the LA Sheriff’s department, added the money we waste on our joke of a sidewalk cleaning program, and folded the security ambassador budget into one law enforcement department, we could actually afford our own police force. Read the Weho 2019-2020 budget. It’s totally doable.
This car break in issue is getting out of control. Just last month my rental car was broken into on vista south of melrose at 11:30 am and almost $40,000 worth of stuff was stolen. Lapd is barely interesting in addressing this. I have called and left messages for the detectives almost every day since with viable evidence for them to follow up on, Like my laptop pinging at a specific address in San Fran or my son’s credit card being used at gas stations and sonic drive thru’s in San Fran, but no response. Sorry you had this happen. You left $40,000 worth of stuff in your car?! The police always say not to leave anything in your car.
Tracing your stuff to the Bay Area makes sense because the last “big” bust found Oakland gang members staying in an area motel, while they do car break-ins all over our town. Guess why they drive 400 miles just to break into cars. Because they know OUR COPS SUCK. After those arrests, break-ins stopped for a while. They’re baaaack!
