A Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighter recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 3 cancer will throw a first pitch before Sunday’s Los Angeles Dodgers-Arizona Diamondbacks game at Dodgers Stadium.

David Castellanos is dedicating his pitch to his father, Samuel, who was unexpectedly placed on life support two weeks ago, a team official said. The elder Castellanos taught his son how to be a true Dodgers fan from a young age.

Castellanos is throwing the first pitch in connection with the team’s Blue Wishes program, which grants wishes for fans, particularly those with life- threatening illnesses.

Rian Johnson, who directed and wrote “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” will also throw a first pitch.

Also throwing first pitches will be Los Angeles Councilman Paul Krekorian and Jack Kitowski, chief of the Mobile Source Control Division of the California Air Resources Board, in connection with Metro Day at Dodger Stadium. Krekorian is a member of Metro’s Board of Directors.

The Dodgers will recognize two individuals committed to fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Eric Amador was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2014 and has been an advocate ever since, including participating in the Central Valley Walk, which is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for ALS.

Ronnie Green has been coming to Dodger Stadium since 1969.

Major League Baseball and all 30 of its teams are committed to finding a cure for this debilitating illness through raising awareness and funds.

The Military Hero of the Game will be Augustine Martinez who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965 and served three tours in Vietnam aboard boats that patrolled the Mekong River.

The first 12,000 ticketed children 14 years old and under in attendance will receive a backpack.

As is customary for Sunday afternoon games, the Dodgers will allow children 14 years old and under to run the bases following the game.l

How does that work? (Four people throwing “first” pitches?) Nice coverage.
