Looking for a laptop or maybe an iPad? Why go to the Apple Store and spend all that money when you can steal one from the front seat of a car parked in West Hollywood? (Well, yes, there is the possibility of an arrest.) The Part 1 (serious) crime report from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station spanning Sept. 16 through 22 again shows smash and grab thefts of valuable objects left in full view on the front and back seats of cars, including a purse with $2,000 in cash.
As noted previously, these thefts are limited to West Hollywood and the thieves are expected to be part of gangs in Northern California who come to affluent areas of Los Angeles to make some quick and easy income. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station has warned drivers not to leave anything of value in a parked car, even if it’s in the trunk.

Sept. 16
Aggravated Assault – Other Weapon (Suspect Arrested). 1200 block La Brea Avenue at 9:25 p.m. A man swung a metal cane at a security guard after being asked to leave the store for causing a disturbance. The suspect arrested by responding deputies. #06193
Residential Burglary. 700 block West Knoll Drive between 6 and 9:15 p.m. An unknown suspect removed cash from the victim’s hotel room safe. No sign of forced entry. #06204
Vehicle Burglary. 8500 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 10:50 and 11:48 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a laptop computer, camera, and two hard drives from the front seat. #06174
Vehicle Burglary. 8400 block Sunset Boulevard between 10:55 and 11:44 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a purse containing $2,000 in cash, earplugs, watch, and car key from the back seat. #06195

Other Burglary (Suspects Arrested). 8500 block West Knoll Drive at 1:55 a.m. Two men forced the lobby door open and removed packages from the mailroom. Both suspects then went to the sub parking garage of the building and checked for unlocked vehicles. The suspects were arrested by responding deputies. #06208
Strong Arm Robbery. Santa Monica Boulevard / Palm Avenue at 1:30 a.m. A woman was walking westbound on the sidewalk of Santa Monica Boulevard when a man approached her and pulled her purse from her hand. The suspect ran from the scene and fled the area in a vehicle that was parked nearby. #06214
Vehicle Burglary. 9100 block Sunset Boulevard between 6 and 7:20 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a purse containing $100 cash and earrings from the back seat. #06213
Vehicle Burglary. 8500 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 9:28 and 11 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a backpack containing books, notebooks, and a water bottle from the front floorboard. #06217

Grand Theft. 8800 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 1 and 2:21 a.m.. An unknown suspect removed two cell phones and a debit card from the victim’s backpack while inside the club. #06265

Grand Theft. 8200 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 7:30 p.m. An unknown suspect removed a cell phone that was left momentarily unattended on a table in the patio area of the business. #06301
Grand Theft. 8800 block Melrose Avenue at 3:27 p.m. A man removed a silver necklace from a display case and left the store without payment. #06341

Residential Burglary. 1200 block Genesee Avenue between 1:01 and 9 p.m.. An unknown suspect used a dog door to gain entry and removed a laptop computer, two IPads, watch, backpack, and Nintendo controller from the bedroom. #06307
Strong Arm Robbery (Attempt). La Brea Avenue / Lexington Avenue at 10 p.m. A woman was walking northbound on the sidewalk of La Brea Avenue when a man pushed her against a wall and demanded her property. The suspect ran from the area after a group of people appeared nearby. No loss. #06302
Vehicle Burglary. 900 block Hilldale Avenue between Sept. 21 and 23. An unknown suspect used a rock to smash the rear passenger’s side window and removed an IPod from the glove box. #06336
