Merriam-Webster defines a “war bag” as a place where a cowboy keeps his personal possessions.  But at the Sheriff’s Station, it’s where a deputy packs his or her radio, flashlight and other important pieces of equipment to haul it from home to the car to work and then back again.

Until today.  The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station held a ribbon-cutting today to officially open a locker room to keep those supplies, which can weigh as much as 50 pounds. That’s a lot to carry from home to car to station and back again said Capt. Ed Ramirez, who was happy to host the ribbon-cutting.

The locker room, which was paid for by the City of West Hollywood, is an important measure to keep the deputies’ equipment safe said Ramirez, who noted that theft of such equipment can lead to a written reprimand or suspension of the deputy possessing it.

Ramirez was joined by a number of deputies and detectives, including Lt. Bill Moulder and Sgt. Jon Klaus, who are known for their interactions with the community.  Also there for the ribbon cutting were City Council members John Duran, Lindsey Horvath, and Lauren Meister.

Is it too much to ask or expect, to have public servants put their noses down and concentrate on the problem solving of real issues, excluding photo-ops for the opening of every envelope or glamming on to opportunities where the press is likely to appear? The vigil of Dean is an example. Please just show up and be respectful without the editorial, campaign statements and/or self congratulatory ” I was there and did this and that”. And please skip the self congratulatory awards for Weho which appear to be generated by am “award seeking team”. Public Servants should not expect… Read more »

Duran allows himself to be photographed at a locker room. You can’t make this stuff up.

We call it war bag because in the Air Force and likely in the other services. It’s where we carried our fighting or mission gear while on duty. In case war did break out we wouldn’t get caught in the field without it.

Duran has no shame. Any normal person would be in hiding after the life he’s lived.

Why do our female representatives look like they stopped by in between wash cycles and then had the nerve to pose for photos! These are also the representatives that traveled on our dime representing us in Europe, Palm Springs, etc… Hope they had done their wash before presenting themselves in public. Why some in this city council don’t believe in proper representivity is beyond me. Shameful and disrespectful to the office they hold.

I’m all for nice things for these men and women who keep us safe, but the last I read was that the City of West Hollywood is paying a couple of tens of milions per year for a contract for a force that is housed in a building that the city does not own. Why is the city paying for capital improvements in a building that it does not own? Who’s minding this expensive contract? Oh…her…
