Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Ranks in the Top 50 U.S. Hospitals in Quality of Care

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s Top 50 Best Hospitals for 2019 by Healthgrades, a company that provides information about physicians, hospitals, and health care providers. The award puts Cedar among the top 1% in the nation in quality of clinical care. 

Cedars was specifically recognized for the quality of its clinical care in several specific areas. They include:

–America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award (2020, 2019, 2018). Awarded for providing superior clinical outcomes in heart bypass surgery, coronary interventional procedures, heart attack treatment, heart failure treatment, and heart valve surgery

–America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care Award (2020, 2019, 2018).  Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in treating pulmonary embolism, respiratory system failure, sepsis, and diabetic emergencies

–America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Pulmonary Care Award (2020, 2019, 2018). Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia

–America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care Award (2020, 2019, 2018). Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke

–Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ (2020, 2019). Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in coronary intervention procedures (angioplasty with stent)

–Neurosciences Excellence Award (2020, 2019, 2018). Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in stroke care and neurosurgery

–America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgery Award (2019, 2018). Awarded for superior clinical outcomes in prostate removal surgery and transurethral resection of the prostate

Healthgrades measures performance by risk-adjusted in-hospital complication rates and in-hospital or 30-day post-admission mortality rates for 32 conditions and procedures based on MedPAR outcomes data (from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and for two procedures based on all-payer data from 15 states and the District of Columbia, representing just under half of the U.S. population.

Great, it is a nice hospital, and doing tremendous research to devise new therapies. Wasn’t it ranked #7 or #8 nationally by US News? I think it is a better hospital than UCLA Medical Center.
