As of noon today there have been 107 people confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus in West Hollywood, up from 105 on Wednesday. That is equal to one of every 344 residents.
In today’s announcement of the infection count, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said there have been 399 new cases across the county, bringing the total to 10,854. There have been 55 new COVID-19-related deaths, bringing that total to 455 thus far.
“Forty-three people who died were over the age of 65; 9 people who died were between the ages of 41 to 65 years old,” the Health Department reported. “Forty-eight people had underlying health conditions, while four people over the age of 65 had no reported underlying health conditions.”
“As of today, 2,847 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (26% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness. Testing capacity continues to increase in LA County, with testing results available for over 70,000 individuals and 11% of people testing positive.”
“The increase this week on the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is distressing and a stark reminder of the devastation caused by COVID-19,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health. “Public Health is planning for our county’s eventual recovery and preparing for a time when we can ease the Health Officer orders. Our goal is to get people back to work by gradually relaxing restrictions in a measured and disciplined way to avoid experiencing a resurgence of cases that overwhelms our healthcare system and threatens our collective wellbeing. Many routines will still be different, and practicing physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and keeping our hands clean will be very important until we have a vaccine.”
The Health Officer order requires essential businesses to provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter essential businesses as well. Essential businesses include grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, and medical cannabis dispensaries. Beaches, trails and trailheads and non-essential businesses such as bars and restaurants and most retail shops remain closed, and all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited. Restaurants may offer food for take-out or delivery.
According to today’s report, the number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills has not increased from the 78 reported on Wednesday. The number of confirmed infections in Culver City increased by two to a total of 36. Hollywood now has 125 confirmed infections, and the number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased from 215 on Wednesday to 223 today.
Confirmed infections in the Little Armenia neighborhood in Los Angeles increased from 47 on Wednesday to 51 today. Little Armenia continues to have the highest infection rate of the 335 cities and communities surveyed by the Health Department, with 635.51 of every 100,000 residents infected. With the Health Departments calculation of infections per one hundred thousand residents, The Crestview neighborhood’s 45 infections make it the second most highly infected area, with 395.85 confirmed infections per 100,000 residents. The small Rancho Dominguez neighborhood as of today has eight confirmed infections, or 300.64 per 100,000 residents, making it the third most highly infected community. West Hollywood is now the most highly infected community, with 289.57 residents per 100,000 have a COVID-19 infection.
With the county’s expansion of testing sites, more than 70,000 people have been tested for the virus as of today, with 11% of them testing positive. Those who want to be tested must first go online to see if they qualify and to book an appointment. Testing is limited to those who have symptoms of an infection, which include coughing, a fever, tiredness and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing. Same day or next-day testing is available only for those who are over 65 and/or have underlying healthcare conditions. A testing site adjacent to West Hollywood is on Alden Drive at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The Health Department continues to remind people that the important steps one can take to protect yourself from the virus are to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home and wearing a face covering when out buying groceries or medicine or providing essential services.
If you are mildly sick, the Health Department advises that you stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever- and symptom-free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

I think we are about to see a huge increase in number infections, not necessarily because more people have become infected, but because more testing sites are opening up & we’ll just “know better” who is infected.
When will this nightmare be over?
