West Hollywood has launched #WeRecAtHome, a virtual recreation center that provides recreational and educational activities, crafts, tutorials, games, and activities that people can participate in from the comfort of their own homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The city is developing content in a variety of recreation categories, each one with “We” to remind our community that we are united and we are #WeHoStrong,” says an announcement of the program. Categories include: WeFitness, WeDance, WeSports, WeCreate, WePlay, WeCare, WeEducate, WeRecreate, and WeCook.
#WeRecAtHome programming includes indoor scavenger hunts, art tutorials, self-care tips, sports drills, cooking tutorials, and virtual fitness programs for people of all ages that will be posted daily.
In addition to accessing the #WeRecAtHome series online through the website at www.weho.org/recreation, there will also be tips and tools posted on the city’s Recreation Services social media pages, at www.facebook.com/westhollywoodrec and www.instagram.com/wehorec.
West Hollywood has declared a local emergency in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and is advising residents to adhere to the Los Angeles County Safer at Home and California State Stay at Home orders.
The city’s Recreation Services Division has suspended site-based operations until further notice and has cancelled facility reservations, programs, events, and activities. Parks also are currently closed. Cancellations include programs and events listed in the Spring Rec Reader publication.
The city urges everyone to stay in place, maintain your space, and cover your face. Leave home only for essential needs; always use social distancing of at least six feet; and follow guidelines to use cloth face coverings such as bandanas or scarves so that medical masks, which are in short supply, are prioritized for health professionals.
West Hollywood City Hall is currently closed to the public and has suspended all in-person transactions. All public city buildings, playgrounds, parks, and facilities are closed. City Hall will remain accessible for business and essential services with transactions to be conducted by phone (323) 848-6400 and via the City’s website at www.weho.org.

The calm and quiet is a welcome respite from the endless cacophony of being overbooked and over scheduled. How about an opportunity for physical, mental and spiritual introspection, that in the normal course of events, few have time for. There is a glimmer of hope with new found sidewalk manners and folks patiently waiting in line without their obsessive technology.
Tax dollars utilized to help us maintain some semblance of sanity are monies well spent during these truly terrible times.
Good point; plus the City is reaping a savings by cancelling other park activities so it all balances out.
I hope tax dollars were not wasted on this.
for sure
