With an increase of four since yesterday, 129 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed as infected with the COVID-19 virus according to an announcement from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. That means one of every 286 residents has been diagnosed as infected.
Once ranked first among confirmed infections per number of residents, WeHo now is the ninth most highly infected of 335 L.A. County cities and neighborhoods, with 349.11 residents per 100,000 having a confirmed COVID-19 infection. A map by Crosstown LA, the non-profit date-oriented news organization, shows the density of infections rates in Los Angeles County. It can be accessed online here.
The Health Department today confirmed 1,081 across Los Angeles County, bringing the total to 17,508. The Health Department confirmed 68 new deaths associated with the virus today. So far, a total 797 deaths have been confirmed.
Fifty-one people who died were over the age of 65. Eleven people who died were ages 41 to 65, and three people were ages 18 to 40 years old.
Nearby cities and neighborhoods continued to see increases in confirmed infections. The Health Department reports 102 infections in Beverly Hills, up from 100 on Wednesday. The number of confirmed infections in Culver City increased by four to 49. The number of confirmed infections in the Hollywood neighborhood is now 169, up from 166 on Wednesday. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by five to a total of 286 today.
There was no increase in the 74 infections confirmed yesterday of residents of the Little Armenia neighborhood in Los Angeles. It continues to have the highest rate of confirmed infections of any of the 335 cities and neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, with a count of 992.12 of 100,000 residents.

Rancho Dominguez had no increase in its previously confirmed 10 infections, which equals 375.8 per 100,000 residents and makes it the fifth most highly infected area.

With 286 confirmed infections, the Melrose neighborhood continues to be the sixth most infected area, with 368.1 of 100,000 residents having the virus. The Hancock Park neighborhood showed no increase today from yesterday’s 60 confirmed infections, which ranks it seventh with 352.13 infections per 100,000 residents.
The Pico-Union neighborhood in Los Angeles as of today reports 147 confirmed infections, making it the eighth most highly infected community with 351.32 residents per 100,000 confirmed to have the disease.
With temperatures forecast to reach nearly 90 degrees tomorrow, the Health Department issued recommendations to avoid heat-related illness, with a focus on older adults, young children, outdoor workers, athletes, and people with a chronic medical condition. They include:
Drink plenty of water and keep hydrated throughout the day.
- If you must go out, plan your day to avoid going out during the hottest hours, and wear sunscreen. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothes, and bring a hat or umbrella with you.
- Cars get very hot. Don’t leave children or pets in cars, and call 911 if you see a child or pet in a car alone.
- Beware of heat-related illness, like heat stroke and call 911 if you see these symptoms: high body temperature, vomiting, and pale and clammy skin.
- Check on those at risk, like the sick, older adults, pregnant women, and children.
- Avoid working out wearing face coverings or masks not intended for athletic purposes; this means avoiding contact with others while you work out.
Those who want to be tested for the virus must first go online to see if they qualify and to book an appointment. A testing site adjacent to West Hollywood is on Alden Drive at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Those who want to be tested must exhibit symptoms of a possible infection, which include coughing, a fever, tiredness and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing.
The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when out in the public procuring or providing essential services. N95 and surgical masks should only be used by healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers providing care for people who are ill.
Essential businesses must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter essential businesses as well. Beaches, trails and trailheads and non-essential businesses remain closed, and all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited.
