COVID-19 Infections in WeHo Grow by Two to a Total of 141

Today’s count of  confirmed COVID-19 infections in West Hollywood is 141, an increase of two from yesterday’s count.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today reported 1,638 new confirmed COVID-19 infections today, bringing the total to 27,815. There have been 58 new deaths, bringing that total to 1,313. Three West Hollywood residents have died thus far.

Forty-three people who died were over the age of 65, ten were between the ages of 41 and 65 and one was between 18 and 40 years old. Forty-five people had underlying health conditions including 38  people over the age of 65 and seven people between the ages of 41 and 65.

One new infection was reported in Beverly Hills, bringing its total to 114. The number of infections in Culver City grew by 17 to 85. The Hollywood neighborhood had two new confirmed infections, bringing its total to 201. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by 12 to a total of 390.

The Health Department is tracking key measures that will influence  plans to reopen businesses and public places in in LA County. The measures include making sure the county has the tools to slow the spread and that it is  effective at doing so.

Factors that will be considered in determining the capacity to slow the spread of the virus are;

  • Tracking hospital capacity to manage a surge in cases and people with serious illness.
  • Tracking sufficient supply of personal protective equipment for all health care workers.
  • Tracking sufficient testing capacity and testing supplies.
  • Tracking adequate capacity to do case and contact tracing.

Factors that will be considered in determining whether the county will be able to effectively slow the spread of the virus are;

  • Tracking mortality rates throughout the process of reopening, including by age, poverty level and race and ethnicity.
  • Tracking hospitalization rates by age, poverty level, and race/ethnicity.
  • Tracking whether people who are at greater risk of serious illness are able to easily access testing.

“Public Health continues planning for recovery and relaxing select directives of the Safer at Home Order. As relaxing occurs, businesses and residents will need to continue to observe and practice physical distancing requirements and infection control precautions,” the Health Department said in an announcement of its latest count. “Physical distancing, wearing cloth face coverings, frequent hand washing, self-isolation and self-quarantine will continue to be very important throughout the foreseeable future. People who have underlying health conditions will still be at much greater risk for serious illness from COVID-19, so it will continue to be very important for our vulnerable residents to stay at home as much as possible, to have groceries and medicine delivered, and to know to call their providers immediately if they have even mild symptoms.”

The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.

Essential businesses must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter essential businesses as well. Beaches, trails and trailheads and non-essential businesses remain closed, and all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited.
