As of noon today, 150 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. That is an increase of two from Tuesday’s count.
The Health Department reports that there have been 1,264 new infections confirmed as of today, bringing the total countywide to 34,428. There have been 47 new deaths, bringing that total to 1,659.
As of today, some restrictions on the operation of local businesses and the use of beaches have been lifted. All retailers that are not located in an indoor mall or shopping center are able to reopen for curbside, door-side, outside pickup, or delivery only. Previously that sort of opening was limited to a select group of businesses including clothing stores, sporting goods stores, toy shops, music stores, bookstores, and florists.
In its announcement, the Health Department reiterated that the public is not allowed to go inside those businesses. Car dealerships may allow customers to enter showrooms so long as they maintain certain distancing and sanitation requirements.. Manufacturing and logistic businesses that supply retail businesses may also reopen.
Before retail businesses, manufacturing and logistic businesses reopen, they are required to put together a plan for adhering to directives including distancing and infection control practices to protect both employees and customers.
Beaches can reopen for active recreation including running, walking, swimming and surfing. However, group sports and activities like picnicking and sunbathing are not permitted, and parking lots, bike paths, piers, and boardwalks, remain closed. Select recreational facilities including golf courses, tennis courts, shooting and archery ranges, equestrian centers and community gardens can also reopen.
Everyone must continue to practice physical distancing of at least six feet apart and wear a clean cloth face covering that securely covers both your nose and mouth when around people outside of your household. The Health Department’s order continues to require that specific higher-risk businesses remain closed and prohibits public and private gatherings of any number of people outside a single household or living unit.
As of today, the number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills remains at 120. The number of infections in Culver City increased by three to 121. The Hollywood neighborhood saw four new infections, with its count now at 224. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by eight to a total of 429.
The best protection against COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
Essential businesses must provide a cloth face covering for all employees to wear while performing duties that involve contact with other employees and or the public and to post physical distancing plans. The public is required to wear a face covering to enter businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and cannabis retailers that are legally allowed to remain open.
