The number of West Hollywood residents who are confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus increased by three today to a total of 170.
The Los Angeles County Health Department reported 940 new infections, bringing that to a total of 44,988 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the county. The Health Department report 14 new deaths, bring the total number to 2,104
The Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard reports that only four West Hollywood residents have died of COVID-19-related infections. The dashboard data apparently isn’t updated often as it has continued to show for several days that 2,391 West Hollywood residents have been tested for the virus.
As of today, the number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills remains at 128. The number of infections in Culver City has increased by one to 136. The number of infections in the Hollywood neighborhood has increased by one to 252. The number of confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by three to a total of 509.
Today is the second day that the City of West Hollywood’s requirement that all people wear face coverings in public has been in effect. The requirement has drawn criticism from some residents who have argued that face coverings have no impact on transmission of the virus, which is not true. Such coverings have been determined to reduce the likelihood that an infected person can transmit the COVID-19 virus through the air by coughing or sneezing or even talking. Some people who are infected may be unaware of it and not showing symptoms at first.
On Friday WEHOville published photos of people, many without face coverings and standing close to one another, eating and drinking alcohol on the sidewalk outside Barney’s Beanery. West Hollywood’s Code Enforcement Division and deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station looked into the gathering and it was broken up. The front of Barney’s Beanery now has signs stating that customers waiting for takeout service should stand six feet apart. There also is a sign with a detailed explanation of state, county and city regulations regarding social distancing, face coverings and other measures to prevent transmission of the COVID-19 virus. It and a separate sign from the state Alcohol Bureau of Control states that it is illegal for customers who purchase an alcoholic beverage for takeout to consume that beverage in public.
The best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing (especially by staying at home) and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
The Health Department states that “People who have underlying health conditions remain at much greater risk for serious illness from COVID-19, so it will continue to be very important for the county’s vulnerable residents to stay at home as much as possible, to have groceries and medicine delivered, and to call their providers immediately if they have even mild symptoms.”

Why not Fine the ownership for allowing the customers to do what they want to do, in disregard of the City Mandate?
I’m so confused why people thinks masks outside are necessary. We don’t have crowded sidewalks in L.A… and this thing really doesn’t travel 6 ft outdoors into someone’s open eyeballs/mouth/nose. Ridiculous. The left backslides into fascism.
Agreed. If I’m outside where alot of people are walking about I would/will gladly pull my mask up. If I’m out walking at 11 p.m. with nobody in sight for the 5 or 6 blocks I can see in
both directions, I will leave the mask down around my neck .. off my face but available if I do happen upon another person. This is exactly the protocol set out by The LA County’s own Dr Ferrer. It is the sane use of masks.
The blanket use of the mask is very confusing. Because a lot of people use the masks incorrectly. They don’t have the correct masks. There is only one type of mask that’s effective. Then there are the designer masks and all the other worthless junk masks on the market since the virus things started. Also, people touch the front of the mask and then wipe their eyes which is spreading whatever might be there into your eyes. I think it should be clear, if it is not, that constant hand washing is only necessary if you leave your home – even to go down or upstairs. If you are not picking up foreign germs, there is no need to destroy your skin.
After the bad PR yesterday is Barney’s Beanery just waking up to the fact that they shirked a moral and legal responsibility to the community and to their customers where they choose to do business? It is simply stunning that people like BB appear to be oblivious of the ethical responsibility of doing business with anyone anywhere?
