The City of West Hollywood is now permitting residents to engage in an outdoor sport where social distancing is normal. — tennis.

The city announced today that the tennis courts at West Hollywood Park and Plummer Park will reopen so long as they comply with “Tennis Reopening Guidelines” established by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The parks themselves are closed, but an announcement from the city notes that the tennis courts at Plummer Park and West Hollywood Park are accessible without obtaining access to main park areas.

The safe-play guidelines include safety practices for before, during, and after play to ensure protections against infections. These include:

  • Maintaining physical distancing of six feet at all times;
  • Wearing a face covering at all times, except during singles play;
  • Bringing your own racket and balls; writing your own initials on each ball; and using only your own tennis balls;
  • No group gatherings;
  • No waiting on the courts;
  • Arriving as close as possible to when you are going to play, and leaving the court as soon as reasonably possible after play;
  • Bringing water and hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes to wash and sanitize hands frequently;
  • Avoiding the sharing of food, drinks or towels.
  • Sneeze or cough only into a tissue or upper sleeve;
  • Don’t engage in doubles place (only singles play permitted);
  • Limit your play to one hour on heavy traffic days;
  • Consider wearing gloves.

You may not play tennis if you are:

  • Exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the federal Centers for Disease Control;
  • In contact with someone with COVID-19 during the prior 14 days; and
  • A vulnerable individual with serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and/or whose immune system is compromised such as by chemotherapy for cancer and other conditions requiring such therapy.
