Shut Down and Boarded Up: Today’s West Hollywood

Most West Hollywood residents today were sheltering inside to comply with the COVID-19 pandemic order. Residents have been told they should leave their homes only for essential purposes like buying groceries, going to drug stores and cannabis lounges and hardware stores. And lately even eating inside restaurants and shopping at local retailers (so long as they maintain a distance of six feet from one another.)

If you are one of those residents, what you have missed is the  rush by local businesses to board up their facades after a rash of vandalism in the Fairfax District and on Beverly Boulevard and Melrose Avenue.  That vandalism followed yesterday’s George Floyd protest marches, which were themselves largely peaceful.

These vandals have no respect for George Floyd and what he represents. Peaceful demonstrations are not marked with stealing and smashing windows. These individuals are oppertunists and criminals not civil right demonstrators. I’m saddened by what is going on in our country now. Shame on you who stole and destroyed property of those who had nothing to do with his killing. Shame on you for disrespecting what these peaceful demonstrations meant to convey.

I don’t understand how they were allowed to get away with all this without some kind of interference by the sheriffs. So much for “peaceful demonstrations” These are things that street thugs & hoodlums do, not those who are demonstrating to raise awareness for racial/social justice/causes. And they certainly dishonor the memory of George Floyd. Sad.

WEHO contracts with the Sheriffs Depr. For Police Services. LAPD Jurisdiction stops on the Eastside of Labrea. Then Bev Hills PD picks up on the west side of WEHO just past Robertson and Then LAPD picks up again at Century City. Thats a lot of area Coverage. During the Rodney King Riots. The LAPD and Sherrifs locked up South Central with the help of CHP and the CA National Guard. There is no bail for Misdemeanors in CA anymore its just catch cite process and release.
