Delays in Getting Lab Results Explain L.A. County’s Low COVID-19 Infection Rate

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today has reported a somewhat lower number of newly confirmed infections.  But that 1,949 count is the result, according to the Health Department, of delays in getting results from the state’s testing lab system.

That count brings the total to date to 168,757.  The Health Department reports 44 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing that number to a total of 4,300.

As of today, 403 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 virus, an increase of three from yesterday. The number of WeHo residents who have died of COVID-19 related illnesses remains at five. In Beverly Hills, the number of confirmed infections is now 522, a reduction of one from yesterday’s count. Those reductions sometimes occur when the Health Department learns that the address is incorrect.  One additional death has been reported, bringing that total to nine.  In Culver City there are 303 confirmed infections, an increase of two from yesterday. The number of deaths remains at 27.

The Hollywood neighborhood as of today has 773 confirmed infections, up 16 from yesterday’s count of 757. The number of deaths remains at six. The Melrose neighborhood has 1,269 confirmed infections, up 15 from yesterday. There has been no increase in the 47 deaths reported earlier.

As noted before, one way the virus can be transmitted is through a cough, a sneeze or even through air that comes from the mouth when someone talks. For that reason, residents must wear face coverings when out in public and can be cited for not doing so. The citations come with a $250 fine and a $50 administrative fee.
