Investigation Underway Into Anti-Semitic Graffiti on Hollywood Temple Beth El

Hollywood Temple Beth El on Crescent Heights Boulevard

Authorities Tuesday were trying to determine who scrawled anti-Semitic graffiti on  the Hollywood Temple Beth El/Iranian- American Jewish Center in West Hollywood.

The vandalism was discovered about 8 a.m. Monday at the facility in the 1300 block of Crescent Heights Boulevard. The markings are believed to have been made some time between Friday and Monday morning, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

No arrests have been reported.

In a Twitter posting Tuesday morning, West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey Horvath said: “This morning, I learned that vandalism w/a message of hate took place at #IAJC in @WeHoCity I condemn in the strongest terms acts of hate & anti-Semitism. There is no place for these kinds of attacks on members of our community or places of worship.”

In December 2019 and January of this year a number of examples of anti-Semitic were discovered in West Hollywood. On Dec. 29, the Bayou WeHo, a popular New Orleans-themed restaurant and bar, opened to find graffiti on its door that read “Hitler was RIGHT” and included a five-point star that may have been intended to represent the six-point Star of David. On Dec. 31, an employee of the Block Party store on Santa Monica Boulevard opened the store to find two somewhat similar five-point stars scrawled on its window. The vandal also painted the letters GD and LK on the window. On Jan. 18 on the sidewalk on Santa Monica Boulevard at Kings Road someone painted what appeared to be a Star of David along with what some interpreted as a Wiccan image.
