The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today reported 1,603 newly confirmed COVID-19 infections in L.A. County and 57 deaths.
There are 1,378 confirmed cases currently hospitalized and 31% of these people are in the ICU. The Health Department has said that the decreasing number of daily hospitalizations is one of the best indicators of success in the county’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
To date, the Health Department has reported 227,346 COVID-19 infections in Los Angeles County and 5,446 deaths.
Ninety-two percent of the people who died from COVID-19 had underlying health conditions, the Health Department reports. Hypertension and diabetes are the most common underlying health conditions among people who died from COVID-19; neurologic conditions and cardiovascular disease is also common. Nearly 3,000 people had hypertension, more than 2,000 people had diabetes, 1,300 people had neurologic conditions, and 1,300 people had cardiovascular disease.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in West Hollywood has increased by one, to a total of 475. The Health Department’s COVID-19 database today reports that the number of WeHo residents who have died of COVID-19 related illnesses is five.
In Beverly Hills, the number of confirmed infections has increased by three to 584. The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Beverly Hills has increased by one to 11. There number of COVID-19 infection confirmed among Culver City residents by seven to 359. The number of deaths remains at 29. Hollywood has ten newly confirmed infections, bringing its total to date is 1,001. The number of deaths has increased by one to a total of 11. The Melrose neighborhood has five new confirmed infections, bringing its total to date to 1,640. The number of COVID-19 related deaths remains 58.

Residents who do not have COVID-19 can continue to call 211 for resources or more information.
As noted before, one way the virus can be transmitted is through a cough, a sneeze or even through air that comes from the mouth when someone talks. For that reason, residents must wear face coverings when out in public and can be cited for not doing so. The citations come with a $250 fine and a $50 administrative fee.
