Okay Boomers, you gotta move over, cause the Gen Z’ers are streaming into West Hollywood and Tik Tok’ing about it.
And they aren’t going to Boystown or the Design District. The New York Times reports that “for Gen Z influencers looking to see and be seen in Los Angeles, there’s only one place to go: BOA Steakhouse.
“On any given night, the crowd at the West Hollywood restaurant is a who’s who of the internet. YouTube stars including Tana Mongeau, Jake Paul and James Charles have dined there, and A-list TikTokers have made it their go-to spot. When one of the Sway Boys has a birthday, or a Hype House member wants to celebrate reaching 20 million followers, BOA is the spot.”
If you’re a member of Baby Boomer generation, you might not recognize those names. To spare you that embarrassment, do a quick Google search. And check out WEHOville’s coverage of Jake Paul’s Brat Pack adventure in the Beverly Grove neighborhood a few years ago. And his Calabasas pandemic party in July, with coverage by celebrity publications and websites that has made him probably the most famous “maskhole” in America (other than that one at the White House.)
The Times’ Taylor Lorenz interviewed Paul Antosca, manager of the restaurant at 9200 Sunset Blvd., who explained that it began attracting internet personalities when FaZe Banks brought some of his FaZe Clan gaming collective in for a meal. They quickly became regulars and were followed by members of Hype House, which took over FaZe Clan’s 12,000-square-foot Hollywood Hills estate this Spring
Lorenz says the Tik Tok’ers and You Tubers are treated like celebrities at BOA Steakhouse. And their fame has brought more fame to BOA, whose Instagram account has attracted 10,000 new followers from the recent publicity.
I’m a Gen Xers we were the ones were the first generation of teenagers to have internet and other gadgets but we didn’t replace communication through personal interaction and speaking to each other. Now all the kids do is stare at their phone and send messages to each other. They have no social skills and can barely interact with each other without their phones. I hate Tik Tok and Instagram. They can have BOA as long as they stay away from the rest of boystown. Also the food there is just okay. I would rather go to Mastro’s.

Let’s face it. BOA is probably the only “Posh” restaurant on the Strip at the moment. Their outdoor seating is ample and secluded. One is not forced to eat on the sidewalk like so many other establishments. And, I’m guessing, the food is good.
I honestly wonder if avid Tik Tok reporters/supporters like Taylor Lorenz get promotion money from Tik Tok. It is known that some “tech reporters” are not disclosing it. I wonder 🤔
I’ve watched Tik Toks and, to me, it’s just like the defunct Vines of years ago. And both are truly absurd and mostly mindless, catering to the incredibly limited attention span of younger people. And Tik Tok may also be a thing of the past if the current Oval Office occupant gets his way. So enjoy the mindlessness as ye may. RIP Tik Tok.
Completely agree, and find it offensive that the media dismiss boomers and others who fail to sign on to the mindlessness of it all as being out of touch. I think we’re more in touch with reality than the vapid musings of intellectually bankrupt influencers, for whatever they think they’re influencing. Generational friction helps sell stories. I’ll get a prompt “okay, boomer” for this one. Ha.
Maybe i’m uncultured swine, but I have never even heard of BOA Steakhouse. I’ve lived here for almost 10 years now.
It’s in the Luckman building on Sunset. Ground floor. Good food but expensive. They must be making bank as “influencers” if this is where they go.
BOA is on Sunset. Street level of an office building. Southside. And just east of our border with Beverly Hills. And no, I’m not an employee, just a resident who has patronized this establishment.
