West Hollywood Announces a ‘Seven Day Countdown’ to Encourage Residents to Fill Out the 2020 Census Form

The City of West Hollywood is making an urgent call — a seven-day countdown — for residents to take action to be counted in the 2020 Census.

“It is not too late and the 2020 Census is vitally important. Community members who have not yet completed the Census can quickly and easily take the census in just five minutes at https://census.ca.gov. Census responses are safe and secure. Information collected in the 2020 Census cannot be shared with or by other governmental agencies,” says a city announcement of the upcoming deadline.

The United States Census Bureau has announced that Census counting will cease next week on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The California 2020 Census has added a “Get Out The Count” countdown timer to its website, which is counting down each second in order to emphasize the urgency with which Census organizers are working to ensure a complete count.

At last tabulation, the 2020 Census response rate for households in California was approximately 68.7% and the response rate for households in the City of West Hollywood was approximately 63.7%.

The 2020 Census will decide how billions of federal dollars are distributed throughout the nation during the next decade. If response rates do not improve, the resulting undercount may negatively impact funding for schools, health services, childcare, emergency services, and many other programs in West Hollywood and across California. Response rates from the 2020 Census will also affect federal representation until 2030. The apportionment of California’s members of Congress and number of votes in the Electoral College may be negatively impacted by an undercount.

The 2020 Census is available in 13 languages and there are options for people who are deaf and hard of hearing. You can learn more by visiting the California 2020 Census website. Census staffers are working in the field and are currently knocking on doors in West Hollywood to follow up with households that have not yet responded to the Census. FYI for all, several civic and government groups had sued the US Census Bureau and got a ruling to extend the census trough October 31st.Census takers will still be out there collecting results,so the “seven day countdown” by the city of West Hollywood can stop now.

With the helicopters over WeHo tonight, you wonder why people are angry and not filling out census forms.

West Hollywood is lucky to get a 63% participation rate in the 2020 US Census.

As most of its residents are renters, folks who will live in the city for a few years and than move on.They have no incentive to contribute to the city as they have no equity to stay put.

That along with a presidential administration not many people trust and the general unease concerning the COVID-19 crisis will make people wary of any mandated head count.

From my own experience online it literally took three minutes. West Hollywood needs your help in securing every Federal dollar available, especially in light of what are sure to be diminished bed tax and sales tax revenues. Please do your part!

63.7% for West Hollywood is pitiful for a community known for its high-mindedness, need to be recognized and complaining about being mistreated all while acting entitled. Unfortunately it may parallel the percentage of folks that deign to wear masks. Maybe folks that don’t fill out the census form, register to vote or vote should not be able to receive a driver’s license. Not being counted is like throwing away money.

I wish West Hollywood good luck in getting people to fill out the latest US Census form for 2020.Unfortunately,most residents in the city are renters who will probably live in the city for a few years before moving on.

Renters tend to not care what is going on in their neighborhood and they have no equity in the community to help them stay.On top of that, you have a presidential administration who doesn’t elicit much trust,so you have residents who are suspicious of the census.

West Hollywood is lucky to get a 63% participation rate considering what is going on.

If you don’t know about the census, or haven’t filled it out by now, maybe you shouldn’t be counted……or vote.
